Yacht Primer Primers Conventional Above Water Primer for Wood, Steel and Alloy PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Quick drying conventional primer for wood, steel and aluminium/alloy above the water. Pigments contain aluminium flake to provide an anti-corrosive protective barrier. PRODUCT INFORMATION Colour Specific Gravity Volume Solids Typical Shelf Life Unit Size DRYING/OVERCOATING INFORMATION Drying 5°C (41°F) Yacht Primer Note: If maximum overcoating times are exceeded, sand using 180 grade paper. WOOD Sand smooth with 80-180 and then 280 grade paper. Remove sanding dust by brushing, dusting and wiping. If wiping with solvent then allow to dry completely before applying the first coat. Apply 1 coat of Yacht Primer thinned 1015% with Thinners No.1 to ensure penetration and adhesion. OILY WOODS e.g. Teak Ensure that the surface is thoroughly degreased. Thinner No.1 is recommended. Sand smooth with 80-180 and then 280 grade paper. Remove sanding dust by brushing, dusting and wiping. If wiping with solvent then allow to dry completely before applying the first coat. STEEL Degrease with solvent or Super Cleaner. Gritblast to Sa 2½ - near white metal surface. If gritblasting is not possible, grind the metal surface with 24-36 grit abrasive discs to a uniform, clean, bright metal surface with a 50-75 microns anchor pattern. Use angle grinder on small areas. Clean thoroughly and allow to dry. ALUMINIUM Degrease with solvent or Super Cleaner. Sand well using 24-120 grade (aluminium compatible) paper. Coarser grades are recommended to achieve optimum adhesion. Clean thoroughly and allow to dry. Apply the first coat of Yacht Primer as soon as possible (within 8 hours). ZINC/GALVANISED STEEL Degrease with solvent or Super Cleaner. Sand well using 60-120 grade paper. Clean thoroughly and allow to dry. Apply 4 coats. If maximum overcoating interval is exceeded, sand using 180 grade paper. If filling is required, use Watertite after the first coat of Yacht Primer has been applied. Ensure all dust is removed before painting. Mixing Stir well before use. Thinner YTA800 Thinner No.1 (Thinner No.10 for spraying) Cleaner YTA800 Thinners No.1 Ventilation and Humidity Control Apply in dry, well ventilated conditions. Airless Spray (Professional spray application only) Pressure: 180 bar. Tip Size: 1365-1580. Conventional Spray (Professional spray application only) For conventional spray application, reduce viscosity using Thinners No. 10 to 20 - 24 seconds, BS4. Pressure: 3-4 bar. Tip Size: 1.4-1.8 mm. Some Important Points Formulated for exterior use. Product temperature should be minimum 5°C/41°F and maximum 35°C/95°F. Ambient temperature should be minimum 5°C/41°F and maximum 35°C/95°F. Substrate temperature should be minimum 5°C/41°F and maximum 35°C/95°F. Suitable for all substrates specified. Do not overcoat with 2-component solvent-based products.
