Product catalog summary
Overview: Zoltek Corporation produces uni-directional (UD) prepreg tapes using Panex carbon fiber, ideal for high-volume composite applications requiring high production throughput, excellent properties, and low material cost. The prepreg tapes are customizable in terms of fiber areal weight, resin content, and width to meet specific customer requirements.
Specifications: The fiber areal weight ranges from 4.4 to 26.5 oz/yd² (150 to 900 g/m²), with resin content between 28 to 45% by weight. The tapes can be up to 50 inches (127 cm) wide and 4,900 feet (1,500 meters) long. Various epoxy resin formulations are available to meet diverse application needs.
Applications: These prepreg tapes are suitable for industries such as wind energy, automotive, petroleum production, aviation, marine, industrial, transportation, medical, sports, and recreation.
Packaging: Tapes are supplied on heavy-walled cardboard tubes with diameters of 10, 12, or 18 inches (25, 30, or 46 cm). Packaging options include paper or polyethylene film interleaf, with custom labeling and packaging configurations available.
Certification: Each shipment includes a Certificate of Analysis, either standard or customized to customer specifications. The product is certified by Germanischer Lloyd for wind energy applications and complies with ISO 9001 and AS9100 standards.
Safety: Users must read and understand the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) before using the product.
Typical Properties: Key mechanical properties include tensile strength of 276 ksi (1,903 MPa), tensile modulus of 19.4 msi (134 GPa), compressive strength of 192 ksi (1,324 MPa), and compressive modulus of 18.7 msi (129 GPa). The glass transition temperature is 252°F (122°C).

Technical Datasheet Panex® 35 Prepreg Tapes Medium-to-High Areal Weight Carbon Fiber Prepregs for High-Volume Applications Description Zoltek produces uni-directional (UD) prepreg tapes based on Panex carbon fiber. Zoltek prepreg is ideal for large-volume composite applications where high production throughput, excellent composite properties, and low material cost are important. A wide selection of epoxy resin formulations meets most processing and composite property requirements for tack, toughness, flow in cure, surface finish, curetime, cure temperature, and delivered composite strength and modulus. Custom formulations are also available. Zoltek prepreg properties, such as fiber areal weight (FAW), resin content, and width, are readily adjusted to exactly meet customer requirements. Packaging options include core size, interleaf type (paper and/or poly film) and number (one side or two), and custom labeling. Zoltek prepreg production is geared to large volumes and low cost. Special projects are welcomed. Material Overview Fiber Areal Weight Recommended Use Any article or component benefiting from the unique properties of carbon fiber composites.
