THE REAL CHALLENGE IS TO REDUCE A YACHT TO HER ESSENTIALS. MICHAEL SCHMIDT Y YACHTS BY MICHA E L S CH MIDT YACH TB AU The origin of YYachts by Michael Schmidt Yachtbau is one of the many success stories of its founder Michael Schmidt. He, himself a passionate regatta sailor and boat builder, set the key data: a yacht must be fast, light & easy to sail. The Y7 is the result of this philosophy and has lots of innovations on board. Have a look and get inspired!

The Y7 was created in collaboration with US designer Bill Tripp, considered one of the world‘s best naval architects. Our goal was to combine comfortable sailing with competitive sailing performance, even on the regatta course. In conditions where other yachts still use their engines, the sails are already set on the Y7. The displacement of less than 29 tons has been reached by using carbon composite and lightweight materials. This makes the yacht move quickly even in lightest winds. The furling system, anchor and helm station are elegantly integrated into the exterior look created by Bill Tripp. Twin engines and a bow thruster allow easy maneuvering, even in tight marinas. The handling of the Y7 is surprisingly easy. The dinghy up to 3.50 metres disappears in a tender garage and is moved with a lifting system integrated in the carbon boom. The dinghy garage is completely dry and is easily accessed from deck and contains all equipment and watertoys. YYachts uses synthetic teak on deck which is long lasting, light and eco friendly.

All halyards and sheets on the Y7 run hidden to the helmstation. The helmsman operates the Y7 himself – probably the only 70 footer on the market. As there is no backstay, the square headed mainsail has a better profile and more sail area. The cockpit has a high variety of uses. On the portside there is a full size companionway into the crew quarters invisibly integrated in the aft cockpit settees.
