Sailing yacht brochure-1

70' performance crusing yacht from Warwick Yacht Design A powerful 225hp Perkins/Sabre diesel engine driving a Hundestadt variable pitch propeller provides ample auxilliary power and range. The brief demanded a vessel for all seasons and all latitudes. Years of experience and detailed planning have gone into the execution of this muscular voyager. Built for a live-aboard family of experienced cruisers, Maya emphasises safety and workability, yet loses nothing in After extensive discussion with the owners, Warwick Yacht Design translated their dream into an elegant 70ft pilothouse cutter. McMullen & Wing, one of New Zealand's leading yards, built the boat with meticulous attention With high latitude sailing on the agenda, reliability was a central theme of the project. Absolute hull integrity has been emphasised, with no less than five watertight compartments and ingenious, custom designed sealing doors. The aluminium hull exceeds Det Norske Veritas certification requirements. No professional crew are involved, so ease of maintenance and use was another priority. For efficient sail handling, Kiwi Yachting Consultants assembled a Lewmar winch package. Matrix Masts combined America's Cup design expertise with durability, resulting in a powerful rig, while Electrical Projects Ltd designed and installed a sophisticated electrical system. Maya accomplishes her go-anywhere, do anything brief with stylish comfort. Low maintenance Awlgrip coatings highlight the outstanding hull finish, while the spacious interior is superbly executed in New Zealand native tawa, imparting a bright, modern appearance. The owner's suite is situated aft, while a three-cabin suite forward accommodates the children and a tutor, or guests. Although enormous strength has been built into Maya, clever design and careful weight distribution has ensured that this has not been at the expense of performance. The easily-driven hull form is well balanced for power and seakindliness on all points of sail. This is a yacht that will reel off the miles day after day in any conditions. The flexible sailplan features a 120% yankee genoa and a staysail, both on Reckman furlers, while the fully- battened mainsail stows in a lazy-jack system. Excellent light airs performance is assured with a generous sail area, which is easily reduced (a storm jib and trisail complete the inventory) in heavy going.

Better a door that really shuts than a lifeboat. The first line of defence against the sea is a strong and watertight hull. With the safety of their young family of first concern, Maya's owners went to great lengths to protect the boat. The hull interior is separated into a series of compartments. Apart from stern, the main accommodation area divides into three watertight sections: the forward suite of cabins; the lower saloon, dining, galley area; and the aft Specially designed doors were custom- built at McMullen & Wing. In the normal course of events, these are just doors, elegantly wood paneled...
