PTC1 refers to the Total Loaded Weight, which includes the boat's empty weight, filled tanks, equipment, and crew weight. The chain length recommendations are based on the hull length: 5 times the hull length for chain-only mooring lines, and a combination of 2 times the hull length in chain plus 3 times in rope for mixed mooring lines.
- Replace the chain if it loses more than 10% of its nominal diameter or shows significant rust and flaking.
- Rinse the chain with freshwater after each use and clean the anchor locker annually.
- Rotate the chain at the end of the season and check the condition of anodes and for any electrical leaks from the windlass.
- Avoid areas with pollution, volcanic seabeds, seaweed proliferation, and metallic masses.
- Do not expose the chain to acids, abrasives, or corrosive substances.
