Veth LNG-Electrical - 1

Veth LNG-Electrical Combination of liquefied natural gas and electrical propulsion LNG powered Greenstream Tanker with LNG-Electrical Veth Z-drives artist impression, courtesy of Peters Shipyards Sustainability is becoming more and more important for the maritime sector. Liquefied Natural Gas is the most interesting possibility to make shipping cleaner. Veth Propulsion has put numerous initiatives in place to become as ‘green’ as possible, such as sailing LNG-Electric. Veth Propulsion supplies the electrically driven Z-drives to the first 100%-LNG driven inland marine vessel. LNG as fuel There is considerable international pressure on reducing the emissions from ships. LNG is safe, clean, economical and available. Burning LNG results in a significant reduction of harmful emissions, even without any treatment of exhaust gasses, including CO2 reduction as an extra benefit in relation to diesel with SCRT catalyst. Safe Fluid LNG is less inflammable than diesel (flash point diesel: 250°C, flash point LNG: 1.100°C), is lighter than air and hardly a healthy hazard. Available The world supply of gas is much bigger than oil.

Clean Reduction LNG compared to diesel (CCNR2). NOx After a calamity, LNG causes no residual damage to the immediate area due to evaporation. Why LNG-electric propulsion? LNG generator sets combined with rudder propellers lead to an extra efficiency improvement compared to a conventional propulsion system. Ships with LNG-Electric propulsion have multiple generator sets on-board, which together provide the full electric propulsion power supply. The benefits of more generator sets are: • Reducing fuel consumption by switching during low load • Available for other major consumers on-board,...
