HYDRAULIC STEERING SYSTEMS

Product catalog summary
Hydraulic and Electro-Hydraulic Steering Systems Overview

System Components and Functionality:
The hydraulic steering system includes a steering pump, a cylinder connected to the rudder or engine, and connecting tubing. It operates by transferring oil from the helm unit to the cylinder, causing the cylinder rod to extend or retract based on steering wheel rotation. Key components are the helm unit, which contains a hydraulic pump and valve assembly, and the cylinder, which can be balanced or unbalanced.

Selection Considerations:
Steering effort is inversely related to the number of wheel turns lock-to-lock, determined by cylinder volume and pump displacement. Factors affecting steering effort include vessel speed, rudder size, engine power, propeller choice, hull type, sea conditions, and oil viscosity.

Ultraflex Hydraulic Steering Systems:
Designed for marine environments, Ultraflex systems ensure durability and safety under extreme conditions.

Cross Reference and Compatibility:
A cross-reference chart is provided for comparing Ultraflex and Teleflex components to facilitate compatibility checks.

Installation Diagrams:
Diagrams for single and dual steering station installations highlight necessary components such as T fittings, filler plugs, and nylon tubes.

Warnings and Recommendations:
Consult a qualified technician for system selection and installation. Specific warnings are provided for certain cylinder applications, particularly regarding maximum engine power and speed limitations.

Helm Pumps and Cylinders:
Details on various models of helm pumps and cylinders, including specifications like displacement, piston count, and relief valve settings, are provided. Features such as built-in lock valves, relief valves, and material specifications are highlighted.

Outboard Steering Applications:
The UC94-OBF cylinder is recommended for outboard engines up to 150 HP, with specific applications listed for various engine brands and models. Installation requirements and optional kits for specific engine configurations are also detailed.

Specifications:
  • UC128-OBF Cylinder: Available in three versions, with a volume of 120 cc, output force of 450 kg, and stroke of 185 mm. Suitable for engines up to 300 hp, with specific recommendations for dual engine applications.
  • UC132-OBS Cylinder: Designed for engines up to 300 hp, with a volume of 132/163 cc, output force of 464/574 kg, and stroke of 203 mm. Not recommended for speeds exceeding 45 mph.

Installation Guidelines:
  • UC128-OBF cylinders require specific link arm kits for initial installation only.
  • UC132-OBS cylinders feature a patented turning nut for easy installation and require a minimum clearance of 375 mm at the engine tube side.

Warnings and Recommendations:
  • UC128-OBF is not recommended for boats exceeding 50 mph, except in dual engine, dual cylinder configurations.
  • UC132-OBS is not intended for racing applications or use with SilverSteer Series Helms.

Hose Kits:
Various hose kits are available for different installation needs, with lengths ranging from 3.00 m to 9.00 m.

Additional Notes:
  • Suzuki engines from 1998 to 2008 require an optional KIT SU for UC128-OBF/1 cylinder installation.
  • For high-performance applications, SilverSteer systems are recommended.

Specifications:
The document outlines various components and specifications for high-performance outboard steering systems, specifically the SilverSteer™ series. Key components include hydraulic oil, hose kits, and helm pumps. The systems are designed for high torque applications such as bass boats and flats boats.

Procedures:
When ordering, specify the length required for hose kits and the engine type for the helm pump. The systems are designed to be easily installed with adjustable fittings and are compatible with a wide range of outboard engines.

Norms and Recommendations:
The SilverSteer™ systems feature a 1500 psi relief valve and are recommended for high-performance applications. The systems should not be used in installations where boat speed exceeds 60 mph, except in dual engine, dual cylinder applications.

Features:
The SilverSteer™ systems include a built-in lock valve for positive rudder lock, integral relief valve for over-pressure protection, and a stainless steel shaft. The systems are available in different displacement sizes and feature a compact design with ball bearing piston race.

HYDRAULIC STEERING SYSTEMS-2

All the components of Ultraflex hydraulic steering systems are made specifically for the marine environment, using materials and working process which offer long life and safety for the most extreme conditions. A hydraulic steering system consists of a steering pump, a cylinder tied to the rudder or to the outboard or sterndrive engine and the connecting nylon or copper tubing. Under normal operating conditions, a turn of the steering wheel will send the oil from the helm unit into one of the two connecting hydraulic lines. The oil will be pumped into one of the chambers of the cylinder and either...
