J/105 Rig Tension Chart Overview
This document provides guidelines for adjusting rig tension on a J/105 sailboat using a PS 10 Loos Red Gauge. It includes specifications for both standard (old-style) and new turnbuckles, with adjustments based on wind strength.
Standard (Old-Style) Turnbuckles
- Wind Strength 0-7 knots: Base setting with no additional turns. Loos Gauge readings: Upper Shrouds - 37, Intermediates - 12, Lower Shrouds - 0.
- Wind Strength 8-16 knots: Adjust Upper Shrouds by +1.5 turns, Intermediates by +0.75 turns, and Lower Shrouds by +0.5 turns. Loos Gauge readings: Upper Shrouds - 41, Intermediates - 17, Lower Shrouds - 0.
- Wind Strength 17+ knots: Adjust Upper Shrouds by +2 turns, Intermediates by +0.75 turns, and Lower Shrouds by +0.5 turns. Loos Gauge readings: Upper Shrouds - 51, Intermediates - 22, Lower Shrouds - 5.
New Turnbuckles
- Wind Strength 0-7 knots: Base setting with no additional turns. Loos Gauge readings: Upper Shrouds - 37, Intermediates - 12, Lower Shrouds - 0.
- Wind Strength 8-16 knots: Adjust Upper Shrouds by +3 turns, Intermediates by +1.5 turns, and Lower Shrouds by +1 turn. Loos Gauge readings: Upper Shrouds - 41, Intermediates - 17, Lower Shrouds - 0.

Key Recommendations
For optimal performance, adjust the rig tension according to the wind strength, starting from the base setting for 0-7 knots and increasing tension as wind strength increases. This ensures the sailboat is properly rigged for varying conditions.
