IntroductionThe document introduces the new 14-foot rotomolded catamaran from Topper International, designed by Yves Loday and Rob White. This catamaran, known as the Topaz 14, is ready for launch after extensive research and testing.
Design and FeaturesThe Topaz 14 is designed to handle various conditions, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced sailors. It features lightweight TRILAM hulls that are easy to manage and require minimal maintenance. The unique hull shape allows it to navigate big waves effectively, outperforming many larger catamarans. The hulls include skegs instead of daggerboards and an auto-lift rudder system, simplifying the process of setting off and returning to shore.
Suitability for BeginnersThe Topaz 14 is ideal for sailing schools and holiday companies, enabling beginners to learn catamaran sailing at an earlier age. It is equipped with controls that are manageable even for younger or lighter crew members, allowing comfortable handling in winds up to force 4-5.
Rigging and PerformanceThe rig provides ample power while maintaining control for novice crews. Standard features include mainsail reefing, with an optional furling jib system. For enhanced performance, a 10m² gennaker can be added for a turbo-powered experience.
Special VersionsThe Topaz 14 is available in a school version with smaller dacron main and jib. Additionally, the Topaz 14 Xtreme is a singlehanded catamaran offering exhilarating performance with a high aspect Mylar mainsail, a 9.90m² asymmetric gennaker, and a trapeze for maximum power utilization.
