Product catalog summary
Introduction
Since 2006, MACRO Industries, Inc., based in Alabama, has been developing MACRO-Lite, a composite panel for unit load devices (ULDs) that leverages the high-performance properties of Teijin Aramid’s Twaron and MACRO Industries’ proprietary resin. These panels are designed to be sturdy, impact-resistant, and environmentally friendly.
Key Benefits of Twaron in ULDs
  • Higher impact resistance
  • Lower weight and environmental impact
  • Increased fire and heat resistance
  • Longer product lifetimes
  • Compliance with higher regulatory standards
Composite Technology
MACRO Industries uses a high-pressure impregnation process to bind Twaron fiber with their proprietary resin, creating a tough woven sheet. This technology allows MACRO-Lite panels to replace existing aluminum panels in ULDs or to construct new composite containers, facilitating easy upgrades for fleet operators.
Air Freight Industry Impact
MACRO-Lite containers are up to 20% lighter than standard aluminum containers while being significantly stronger. This makes them ideal for the air freight industry, offering higher cut and dent resistance, reducing maintenance costs, and providing environmental benefits. In 2014, UPS adopted MACRO-Lite ULDs, resulting in significant fuel savings and CO2 emission reductions.
Fire Resistance
MACRO-Lite panels can contain a fire with a peak temperature of 650°C for four hours, compared to a few minutes for aluminum containers. This feature is crucial for flight safety and compliance with potential stricter regulations on transporting lithium-ion batteries.

Aramid reinforced MACRO-Lite air freight container-1

High-performance composite ULDs The sky's the limit with Twaron Since 2006, Alabama-based MACRO Industries, Inc. has been developing MACRO-Lite, which are sturdy, impact-resistant composite panels for unit load devices (ULDs). MACRO-Lite leverages the high-performance properties of Teijin Aramid's Twaron and MACRO Industries' proprietary resin, allowing air freight containers to weigh less, meet higher safety standards, require fewer repairs, and have a lower environmental impact. Thanks to the durability of MACRO-Lite panels, they also provide a cost-effective solution for ULDs. Key benefits when using Twaron in ULDs • Higher impact resistance • Lower weight and environmental impact • Increased fire and heat resistance • Longer product lifetimes • Compliant with higher regulatory standards Twaron® The power of Aramid

Aramid reinforced MACRO-Lite air freight container-2

An easy-to-use composite technology MACRO Industries’ proprietary resin technology and Teijin Aramid’s Twaron fiber are bound together using high-pressure impregnation, creating a tough woven sheet that significantly improves the performance of ULDs. Because it is produced in sheets, MACRO-Lite can be easily used as a replacement for existing aluminum panels in operational ULDs (as with aluminum panels, MACRO-Lite panels are held in place with rivets and bolts), or to build new composite containers. This allows fleet operators to easily upgrade their containers with little impact on the existing...
