MD-2 MKII-1

Designed for offshore use, the MD-2 is our most popular Life Raft. Its Inflation System, Buoyancy Chamber Material, Seam Construction, and Ballast System, are all identical to those in our USCG Approved SOLAS Life Rafts. Any item in the survival equipment that can be Coast Guard Approved is, and meets any applicable International SOLAS standard. A rigid boarding step at the primary entrance, in addition to boarding ladders at both entrances, facilitates climbing up and into the raft from the water. Twin "Gull-Wing" doors make it easier to jump into the raft from higher freeboard vessels and the large triangular openings provide excellent ventilation with 360° lookout capability. Their heavy-duty marine grade closures can be zipped up to raise freeboard, while maintaining openings for lookout capability. The extra large reinforced Ballast Pockets exceed the USCG and international SOLAS volume requirements. Internal weights help them fill rapidly. Shock is an important concern when people are forced to abandon Even in tropical waters, raft occupants must do everything possible to insulate themselves from the relatively colder water outside the Life Raft and separate themselves from any water that may be in the raft. So-called "Double Floors" are merely a second layer of fabric attached to the bottom of the raft. When inflated, they do provide some insulation. Unfortunately, any water inside the raft remains on top of the floor and constantly comes into contact with the survivors. This greatly increases the rate at which their bodies lose heat and energy. Our optional independent Heat Sealed or Drop-Stitch Inflatable Floors, sit on top of the rafts bottom providing thermal insulation. Unlike integral inflatable floors, they create a bilge; raft occupants sit on top of the floor; water in the raft goes under it. The rugged hard container is made of hand laid fiberglass and is strong enough that you can on stand on it. The puncture and abrasion resistant soft valise is constructed of 1,000 Denier Cordura™ An anodized marine grade aluminum Deck Mounting Cradle, and USCG Approved Hydrostatic Release are also available as options.
