Installation Procedures for Transducer Mounting Rings
  • Ensure the surface is flat, smooth, and clean before installation. Avoid fitting on weld seams, spatter, concave or convex surfaces, near bulkheads, or on rough surfaces.
  • Protect screw threads with transducer gel and apply epoxy to the prepared surface and mounting ring.
  • Press the mounting ring into place, ensuring no stray epoxy is present, and allow it to cure for 12-24 hours.
  • Apply transducer gel to the transducer contact face before screwing it into the mounting ring.
Fitting Transducers Using the Contact Disk Method
  • For rough surfaces, clean and prepare the surface and aluminium contact disk with epoxy.
  • Place the disk into the mounting ring and apply transducer gel before screwing in the transducer.
  • Ensure good contact between the disk and transducer, but do not overtighten.
Fitting Transducers in Foam Core or Sandwich Constructions
  • Consult a marine technician before installation. Do not fit transducers to the inner layer of sandwich constructions.
  • Remove the inner layer and some core material to reach the outer layer, ensuring a clean, flat surface for bonding.
  • Fill the void with new GRP and resin, cure, and follow standard bonding procedures.
Fitting Pipe Adaptors
  • Determine the pipe diameter and location for the Sonihull Pipe Adaptor, ensuring it is at least 250mm from flanges or bulkheads.
  • Prepare the pipe surface by sanding and apply epoxy to the pipe adaptor.
  • Secure the adaptor with zip ties or clips while the resin cures, then apply transducer gel and screw in the transducer.

SYSTEM INSTALLATION First things first – Job order for typical installation 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Sonihull ECO systems can also be used to protect fuel tanks against Diesel bug. Look to fit transducers in the middle of the tank sides, avoiding voids, air gaps and weld seams. FITTING SONIHULL ECO - To GRP/ FRP Surfaces The effectiveness of your system depends on correct installation. Below are the instructions for bonding the Transducer Mounting Rings to GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic (or ‘fibreglass’) and FRP (Fibre Reinforced Plastic, like Carbon-fibre, Kevlar structures). FITTING THE TRANSDUCERS - In ‘Foam Core’ or ‘Sandwich’ FRP GRP Constructions DANGER – Consult a qualified marine technician with GRP/FRP expertise before fitting Sonihull ECO to Foam Core or ‘Sandwich’ structures. FITTING PIPE ADAPTORS Once you have determined the outside diameter of the pipe you are fitting to, protecting pipework from biofouling is relatively straightforward. Take the correctly-sized Sonihull Pipe Adaptor and find a suitable location for bonding it to the pipework that’s being protected.
