Product catalog summary
Description: SIGMAZINC 102 is a two-component polyamide cured zinc epoxy primer known for its economical application in various paint systems. It offers good corrosion prevention, quick drying, and can be overcoated after a short interval. It serves as a holding primer for maintenance systems, provided the superimposed system is unsaponifiable and complies with SSPC-Paint 20 standards.
Principal Characteristics: The primer is grey and flat, with a mass density of 2.1 g/cm³ and volume solids of 55 ± 2%. It has a VOC content of max. 193 g/kg and max. 410 g/l. Recommended dry film thickness is 25 - 50 µm, with a theoretical spreading rate of 22 m²/l for 25 µm. It is touch dry after 15 minutes at 20°C, with a minimum overcoating interval of 6 hours and a curing time of 7 days.
Recommended Substrate Conditions and Temperatures: Suitable for steel substrates blast cleaned to ISO-Sa2½ with a blasting profile of 40 - 70 µm. The substrate temperature should be above 10°C and at least 3°C above the dew point. The mixing ratio by volume is 78:22 (base to hardener), and the temperature of the mixed components should be above 15°C.
Instructions for Use: Induction time is not required, and pot life is 24 hours at 20°C. Thinner 91-92 is recommended, with a volume of 0 - 20% depending on application conditions. Safety precautions include avoiding inhalation of spray mist or vapour and contact with skin or eyes.
Overcoating and Curing: Overcoating intervals vary with temperature, with a minimum of 3 hours at 40°C and a maximum of several months under clean interior conditions. Curing times also vary, with full cure achieved in 7 days at 20°C. Alternative primers are recommended for applications at temperatures down to 5°C.
Safety and Limitations: Adequate ventilation is necessary during application and curing. The product may be modified to comply with local regulations, and users must ensure the suitability of the product for their specific use. PPG Protective & Marine Coatings does not accept liability for loss or damage resulting from use.
