SIGMAWELD 199

Product catalog summary
Description: SIGMAWELD 199 is a two-component moisture-curing, low zinc (ethyl) silicate prefabrication primer. It is suitable for automatic application on shot-blasted steel plates and offers fast drying properties, good cutting, and excellent welding properties, including MIG/MAG welding in various positions. It provides smooth weld seams, low fume release during welding and cutting, and excellent thermal stability.
Principal Characteristics: The primer can be used as a first coat in various paint systems and is suitable for seawater immersion when combined with controlled cathodic protection systems. It is approved by Lloyd's Register of Shipping and has a health certificate from the North of England Industrial Health Service.
Colours and Gloss: Available in red-brown (grey on request) with a flat finish.
Basic Data at 20°C: Mass density is 1.3 g/cm³, volume solids are 25 ± 2%, and VOC is max. 521 g/kg. The recommended dry film thickness is 18 µm, with a theoretical spreading rate of 11.4 m²/l. Touch dry time is 6 minutes at 20°C and 3 minutes at 40°C. Overcoating interval ranges from a minimum of 3 days to a maximum of 6 months.
Recommended Substrate Conditions and Temperatures: Steel should be shot blast cleaned to ISO-Sa2½ with a blasting profile of 30 - 75 µm. Substrate temperature should be up to 35°C, with a recommended temperature of 30°C for automatic application. Relative humidity during curing should be between 50% and 85%.
System Specification and Secondary Surface Preparation: Contamination of the prefabrication primer should be limited during storage and construction. Surface defects should be treated according to specified schemes, with preferred pretreatments indicated.
Instructions for Use: The mixing ratio by volume is binder to paste 66.7:33.3. The mixture should be stirred thoroughly and strained through a 30 - 60 mesh screen. Continuous agitation during application is recommended.
Safety Precautions: This is a solvent-borne paint, and care should be taken to avoid inhalation of spray mist or vapor and contact with skin or eyes. Safety sheets and material safety data sheets provide further guidance.
Limitation of Liability: The information is based on laboratory tests and is intended for guidance only. PPG Protective & Marine Coatings does not accept liability for loss, injury, or damage resulting from the use of the product.
