Product catalog summary
Description: SIGMAWELD™ 120 is a two-component, polyamide-cured epoxy prefabrication primer designed for automatic application on shot blasted steel plates. It offers good cutting and welding properties and provides corrosion protection for up to 6 months when applied at a dry film thickness (DFT) of 22 µm.
Principal Characteristics: The primer is suitable for various welding methods, fast-drying, and can be used as a first coat in paint systems for atmospheric exposure. It is available in a red-brown color with a flat gloss level.
Basic Data at 20°C (68°F): The product consists of two components with a mass density of 1.1 kg/l and volume solids of 21 ± 2%. The recommended DFT is 22 µm per coat, with a theoretical spreading rate of 9.5 m²/l. It dries to touch in 4 minutes at 40°C and has a minimum overcoating interval of 12 hours.
Substrate Conditions and Temperatures: The steel substrate should be blast cleaned to ISO-Sa2½ with a blasting profile of 40 – 70 µm. The substrate temperature during application should be at least 3°C above the dew point and between 35°C and 40°C for automatic application.
Instructions for Use: The mixing ratio is 75:25 by volume (base to hardener). The mixture should be strained and may require thinning with THINNER 90-53. The pot life is 24 hours at 20°C. Application can be done via air spray or airless spray, with specific nozzle orifice and pressure recommendations.
Safety Precautions: As a solvent-borne paint, precautions should be taken to avoid inhalation and contact with skin or eyes. Relevant safety data sheets should be consulted.
Warranty and Limitations: PPG provides a warranty on the product's title and conformity to specifications but disclaims other warranties. Liability is limited, and users are responsible for determining the product's suitability for their use.
