Product catalog summary
Description: SIGMADUR 500US is a two-component aliphatic acrylic polyurethane finish known for its excellent resistance to atmospheric exposure, color and gloss retention, and hiding power. It is suitable for use over properly prepared and primed surfaces in various atmospheric applications.
Principal Characteristics: The product offers unlimited recoating, good application properties with conventional and airless spray equipment, and excellent brush and roll properties. It is tough, flexible, and abrasion-resistant.
Colors and Gloss: Available in white and various other colors with a high gloss finish.
Basic Data at 20°C:
  • Mass density: approx. 11.0 lbs/gal (1.3 g/cm³)
  • Volume solids: 65 ± 2%
  • VOC: 2.7 lbs/gal (324 g/l)
  • Recommended dry film thickness: 2 - 3 mils (50 - 75 μm)
  • Theoretical spreading rate: 1,042 ft²/gal at 1 mil (23.6 m²/l for 25 μm)
  • Touch dry after 3 hours
  • Overcoating interval: min. 16 hours, max. unlimited
  • Full cure after 9 days
  • Shelf life: at least 24 months
Recommended Substrate Conditions and Temperatures: The substrate should be dry, free from contamination, and sufficiently roughened if necessary. The temperature should be at least 5°F (3°C) above the dew point, with a maximum relative humidity of 80% during application and curing.
Instructions for Use: Mix base and hardener in a 4:1 ratio by volume. Ensure uniform consistency before and after combining. The temperature of the mixed components should be above 59°F (15°C). Thinner should be added after mixing, with recommended thinners being Thinner 91-88 or Amercoat 65.
Application Methods:
  • Airless Spray: Nozzle orifice 0.38 - 0.48 mm, pressure 1900-2400 psi
  • Air Spray: Thinner volume 5-10%
  • Brush/Roller: Thinner volume 0-3%
Safety Precautions: Avoid inhalation of spray mist or vapor and contact with skin or eyes. Contains a toxic polyisocyanate curing agent.
Additional Data: Overcoating and curing tables are provided for different substrate temperatures. Adequate ventilation is necessary during application and curing. The product may be modified to comply with local regulations.
Limitation of Liability: The information is based on laboratory tests and is intended for guidance only. PPG Protective & Marine Coatings does not accept liability for loss, injury, or damage resulting from the use of this product.

Induction time mixing ratio by volume: base to hardener 4:1 - power agitate each component to uniform consistency before combining, then again after combining.DO NOT vary portions - the temperature of the mixed base and hardener should preferably be above 59°F ( 15°C), otherwise extra solvent may be required to obtain application - too much solvent results in reduced sag resistance and slower cure - thinner should be added after mixing the components - multiple coats may be required for optimal hiding power in application over dark primers and/or when roller application is used Recommended thinner...
