Product catalog summary
Description: SIGMACOVER 520 is a two-component high solids epoxy tiecoat used as a final coat in epoxy underwater anticorrosive systems. It is suitable for sea water immersion on underwater structures and ship hulls, and is compatible with Sigma antifoulings.
Principal Characteristics: The product offers extended recoating intervals, easy application by airless spray and brush, and meets VOC regulations under Federal NESHAP for Shipbuilding and Repair. Available in redbrown, grey, and black with low sheen.
Basic Data at 20°C: Mass density is approximately 12.1 lbs/gal (1.45 g/cm³), with volume solids at 72 ± 2%. VOC content is 1.85 lbs/gal (220 g/l). Recommended dry film thickness is 5-8 mils (125-200 μm), with a theoretical spreading rate of 1,161 ft² lbs/gal (28.7 m²/l for 25 μm). Touch dry time is 1.5 hours, with a full cure after 7 days. Shelf life is at least 12 months in a cool and dry place.
Recommended Substrate Conditions and Temperatures: The previous coat should be dry and free from contamination, with substrate temperature at least 5°F (3°C) above dew point. Mixing ratio by volume is 80:20 (base to hardener), with a minimum temperature of 59°F (15°C) for mixing.
Instructions for Use: Induction time is not required, and pot life is 5 hours at 68°F (20°C). Thinner 91-92 or Thinner T-10 is recommended, with volume adjustments based on application conditions. Nozzle orifice for airless spray is approximately 0.48 - 0.53 mm, with nozzle pressure at 2400 - 2700 p.s.i.
Additional Data: Overcoating intervals vary with temperature, ranging from 24 hours at 41°F (5°C) to 4 hours at 86°F (30°C). Curing times also vary, with full cure ranging from 7 days at 41°F (5°C) to 36 hours at 104°F (40°C).
Safety Precautions: Refer to information sheets for safety indications, explosion and toxic hazards, and safe working in confined spaces.
Limitation of Liability: The information is based on laboratory tests and intended for guidance only. PPG Protective & Marine Coatings does not accept liability for loss, injury, or damage resulting from use or the contents of this data sheet.
