Product catalog summary
Description: SIGMA ECOFLEET 238 A is a TBT-free self-polishing antifouling paint designed for economical use in commercial marine applications. It contains a balanced level of cuprous oxide to prevent fouling and is compatible with various anticorrosive underwater hull systems. Suitable for coated steel hulls on seagoing vessels, workboats, and barges, it is available in red-brown and brown colors with a flat finish.
Principal Characteristics: The paint has a mass density of 1.8 g/cm³ and volume solids of 64 ± 2%. It complies with VOC regulations, with a maximum of 183 g/kg and 333 g/l. The recommended dry film thickness is between 75 - 125 μm per coat, with a theoretical spreading rate of 6.4 m²/l for 100 μm thickness. The overcoating interval varies, with a minimum of 4 hours and a shelf life of at least 12 months.
Recommended Substrate Conditions and Temperatures: The substrate temperature should be at least 3°C above the dew point. Surface cleaning methods range from high-pressure water cleaning to abrasive blasting, depending on the hull's condition and existing antifouling. Existing fouled surfaces should be cleaned by scraping or sweep blasting, and loose paint removed by high-pressure water wash.
Instructions for Use: Stir well before use, and ensure the paint temperature is above 15°C to avoid the need for extra thinner. Excessive solvent use can reduce sag resistance. Thinner 21-06 is recommended, with a volume of 0 - 10% depending on application conditions. The nozzle orifice should be approximately 0.53 - 0.63 mm, with a nozzle pressure of 12 - 15 MPa.
Safety Precautions: As a solvent-borne paint, avoid inhalation of spray mist or vapor and contact with skin or eyes. Refer to safety sheets 1430, 1431, and relevant material safety data sheets for detailed safety information.
Additional Data: Theoretical spreading rates and overcoating intervals are provided for various substrate temperatures. Longer drying times may be necessary under unfavorable conditions. The product may be modified to comply with local regulations, and users should ensure they have the current data sheet before use.
Limitation of Liability: The information provided is based on laboratory tests and is intended for guidance only. PPG Protective & Marine Coatings does not accept liability for loss, injury, or damage resulting from the use of this product, except where written agreements state otherwise.
