PHENGUARD 930

Product catalog summary
Description: PHENGUARD™ 930 is a two-component, high-build, amine adduct-cured novolac phenolic epoxy primer. It is part of the PHENGUARD tank coating system, offering excellent resistance to organic acids, alcohols, edible oils, fats, and solvents. It provides maximum cargo flexibility, low cargo absorption, and good resistance to hot water, with recognized corrosion control properties.
Principal Characteristics: The primer is off-white with an eggshell gloss level. It has a mass density of 1.7 kg/l and volume solids of 66 ± 2%. The recommended dry film thickness is 100 µm, with a theoretical spreading rate of 6.6 m²/l. It dries to touch in 2 hours and has an overcoating interval of 36 hours minimum and 21 days maximum.
Substrate Conditions and Temperatures: Steel substrates should be blast cleaned to ISO-Sa2½ with a blasting profile of 50 – 100 µm. The substrate must be dry and free from contaminants, with application temperatures above 10°C and at least 3°C above the dew point.
System Specification: The system includes PHENGUARD 930 (offwhite), PHENGUARD 935 (pink), and PHENGUARD 940 (gray), each with a recommended thickness of 100 µm.
Instructions for Use: The mixing ratio is 88:12 by volume (base to hardener). The paint temperature should be above 15°C for optimal application. Induction times vary with temperature, and pot life is 4 hours at 20°C.
Application Methods: Air spray and airless spray methods are recommended, with specific nozzle orifice sizes and pressures. Thinner 91-92 is used for thinning, and Thinner 90-53 for cleaning.
Additional Data: Overcoating intervals and curing times are specified for various temperatures. Adequate ventilation is necessary during application and curing.
Safety Precautions: Avoid inhalation of spray mist or vapor and contact with skin or eyes. The product is subject to a TSCA 5a Significant New Use Rule.
Worldwide Availability: PPG aims to supply the same product globally, with modifications as necessary to comply with local regulations.
Warranty and Limitations of Liability: PPG provides specific warranties and disclaims others. Liability is limited, and users must determine product suitability for their use.
