AMERCOAT 205

Product catalog summary
Description: AMERCOAT® 205 is a two-component, high-build, polyamide-cured zinc phosphate epoxy primer/coating designed for atmospheric conditions. It is fast-curing and suitable for protecting steel and concrete. The product is easy to apply using an airless spray and can be recoated with most two-component epoxy and polyurethane coatings.
Principal Characteristics: The coating offers a wide range of colors with an eggshell gloss level. It is tough and provides long-term flexibility.
Basic Data at 20°C (68°F): The product consists of two components with a mass density of 1.4 kg/l and volume solids of 70 ± 2%. The VOC content is compliant with Directive 1999/13/EC and UK PG 6/23(92). Recommended dry film thickness ranges from 75 to 150 µm, with a theoretical spreading rate of 9.3 m²/l for 75 µm thickness. The product is dry to touch in 3 hours and fully cures in 3 days.
Recommended Substrate Conditions and Temperatures: For steel, the substrate should be blast cleaned to ISO-Sa2½ with a blasting profile of 40 – 70 µm. Concrete should be dried for at least 28 days, with a moisture content not exceeding 4.5%. Application and curing should occur above 5°C and at least 3°C above the dew point.
Instructions for Use: The mixing ratio by volume is 75:25 (base to hardener). The mixed product should be above 15°C for optimal application. Induction time varies with temperature, and pot life is 6 hours at 20°C.
Application Methods: For air spray, use THINNER 91-92 with a nozzle orifice of 1.5 – 3.0 mm and pressure of 0.3 - 0.4 MPa. For airless spray, use the same thinner with a nozzle orifice of 0.48 mm and pressure of 15.0 MPa. Brush/roller application requires 0 – 5% thinner.
Additional Data: Overcoating intervals and curing times vary with temperature and film thickness. Adequate ventilation is necessary during application and curing.
Safety Precautions: Avoid inhalation of spray mist or vapor and contact with skin or eyes. Refer to safety data sheets for more information.
Worldwide Availability: The product is available globally, with possible modifications to comply with local regulations.
Warranty and Limitations of Liability: PPG provides specific warranties regarding product title and quality but disclaims other warranties. Liability for indirect or consequential damages is limited.
