SEAGUARD VOID COAT

Product catalog summary
Product Description: SEAGUARD VOID COAT is a high-quality, single-component, water-based coating designed for the interior spaces of fresh and saltwater barges. It contains no hazardous air pollutants (HAPS) and has very low volatile organic compounds (VOC). The coating includes high penetration index asphalt for enhanced film flexibility and is formulated to protect steel plates from corrosion with minimal surface preparation.
Product Characteristics: The coating has a semi-gloss finish and is gray in color. It consists of 56% volume solids and 63% weight solids, with a VOC content of 0.1 lb/gal. The theoretical coverage is 179 sq. feet per gallon at 5 mils dry. Recommended dry mil thickness ranges from 3.0 to 9.0. The drying schedule at 10.0 mils wet and 50% relative humidity is 2 hours to touch and 24 hours to cure. The shelf life is 12 months, and the flash point is over 200°F.
Recommended Uses: The coating provides excellent corrosion protection, is HAPS free, and has high film build capability. It is resistant to high temperatures and suitable for severe atmospheric corrosion protection. It requires little or no pretreatment and is effective in saltwater barges.
Performance Characteristics: The product passes corrosion resistance tests (ASTM B117) for 336 hours, has a direct impact resistance of 160 in. lbs. (ASTM D2794), and reverse impact resistance of 20 in. lbs. It withstands high temperatures up to 450°F and passes saltwater immersion tests (ASTM D870-97) for 336 hours.
Surface Preparation: Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from contaminants. Mixing may be required to achieve optimal flow characteristics, especially if exposed to cold temperatures.
Application Conditions: The application temperature should be between 65°F and 90°F, with relative humidity at least 5°F above the dew point. Tinting is not recommended.
Ordering Information: Available in 5, 55, and 330-gallon containers, with a weight of 10.4 ± 0.2 lb per gallon.
Safety Precautions: Refer to the MSDS sheet before use. Protect from freezing and consult Sherwin-Williams for the latest technical data.
Warranty: Sherwin-Williams warrants products to be free of manufacturing defects, with liability limited to replacement or refund.
Recommended Systems: For steel with an alkyd primer, apply 1 coat of Seaguard Void Coat at 3.0-9.0 mils dry film thickness using airless spray application.
Clean Up Instructions: Clean spills and tools immediately with soap and warm water. Flush spray equipment with Mineral Spirits to prevent rusting.
Disclaimer: Information is based on tests by Sherwin-Williams and is subject to change. Consult a representative for the most recent data.
