Product Overview: SeaGuard 6100 High Solids Marine Epoxy is a high solids epoxy phenalkamine designed for marine and offshore environments. It offers anti-corrosive properties suitable for both immersion and atmospheric service, and can be applied at temperatures as low as 20°F (-7°C). It is environmentally safe, self-priming, and resistant to salt and fresh water immersion.
Characteristics: The epoxy has a semi-gloss finish available in Red Oxide, Gray, and Black. It contains 80% ± 2% volume solids and 87.5% ± 2% weight solids. The VOC content is under 180 g/L unreduced and under 250 g/L when reduced by 10%. The mix ratio is 4:1 by volume, with a recommended spreading rate of 7.5 to 15.0 wet mils, translating to 6.0 to 12.0 dry mils.
Drying Schedule: At 8.0 mils wet, drying times vary by temperature: at 40°F, touch dry in 4 hours and handleable in 24 hours; at 77°F, touch dry in 2 hours and handleable in 8 hours; at 120°F, touch dry in 1 hour and handleable in 2 hours. Cure to service time ranges from 3 to 14 days depending on temperature.
Recommended Uses: Ideal for steel substrates in salt and fresh water immersion, ballast tanks, offshore structures, bilges, decks, superstructures, underwater hulls, and as an anti-corrosive primer in underwater hull systems.
Performance Characteristics: The epoxy offers excellent adhesion, corrosion weathering, impact resistance, flexibility, immersion resistance, moisture resistance, and pencil hardness.
Surface Preparation: Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from contaminants. Specific preparation standards are provided for iron, steel, galvanized steel, and concrete.
Application Conditions: The application temperature range is 20°F to 120°F, with relative humidity not exceeding 85%. The material should be at least 40°F for optimal performance.
Application Equipment: Guidelines are provided for airless and conventional spray equipment, as well as brush and roller applications. Specific reducers are recommended based on temperature conditions.
Safety Precautions: Users should refer to the MSDS sheet for safety information. The product is warranted to be free of manufacturing defects, with liability limited to replacement or refund.
Specifications and Application Guidelines: Volume solids do not account for application loss factors. Excessive material reduction can negatively impact film build, appearance, and adhesion. For immersion service, holiday testing should be conducted according to ASTM standards. Previously catalyzed material should not be mixed with new material, and application should not exceed the recommended pot life. Spray equipment should be cleaned with Reducer R2K5 to prevent blockage. Anti-slip additives can be added for slip resistance.
Warranty: Sherwin-Williams warrants its products to be free of manufacturing defects. Liability for defective products is limited to replacement or refund of the purchase price. No other warranties, expressed or implied, are provided.
