Sonar Training Target

Sonar Training Target

Product catalog summary
Overview
The document describes the Sonar Transponder Module (STM) for the Gavia Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV), which enables the vehicle to function as a Sonar Training Target (STT) for Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) training. The STM is designed to simulate various submarine target characteristics, providing a cost-effective and reusable training solution.

Features
  • The STM simulates echo responses and acoustic signatures of underwater targets.
  • It is fully integrated into the Gavia user interface and mission planning.

Benefits
  • Cost-effective and reusable for ASW training.
  • Man-portable and rapidly deployable.
  • Operable from standard Gavia vehicles configured for other tasks.
  • Compatible with a wide array of additional sensors for Gavia AUVs.

Technical Specifications
  • STM Module: Length 698mm, Weight 10kg, Frequency range 5-50 kHz.
  • STT Configured Gavia System: Length 2932mm with DVL INS, Weight 74kg with single battery, Depth rating 500m or 1000m.
  • Battery: 1.5 kWh lithium-ion rechargeable cells, endurance 6-7 hours per module.
  • Communication: IEEE 802.11g compliant wireless LAN, global satellite coverage via Iridium, acoustic modem for tracking and updates.
  • Navigation: DVL aided Inertial Navigation System (INS) with options from Teledyne RDI, iXBlue, or Kearfott.

Operational Modes
  • Echo Repeat Mode: Simulates a submarine with a maximum target strength of 20 dB.
  • Store Repeat: Repeats pre-recorded echoes with a target strength up to 40 dB.
  • Target Highlights: Manipulates echoes to simulate targets with different aspect angles.
  • Passive Mode: Outputs pre-stored pulses or noise signals for various simulations.

Control and Modularity
  • Controlled via acoustic commands or Iridium communications.
  • Modular construction allows for field-changeable modules and capability expansion.

Sonar Training Target-1

A Teledyne Gavia Sonar Training Target Datasheet Teledyne Gavia Sonar Training Target Gavia AUV Module Flexible Solutions for ASW Training THE SONAR TRANSPONDER MODULE (STM), is a module for receiving and retransmitting sonar signals which allows for a standard Gavia vehicle to be configured as a Sonar Training Target (STT) for ASW training purposes. The STM consist of a flooded transducer compartment, an electronic compartment and a hydrophone that is towed behind the Gavia AUV and is capable of simulating preprogrammed target characteristics. The STM is programmable to emulate different type of realistic submarine target sizes and speeds for cost effective and re-usable ASW training capability. Assembled Gavia Vehicle in Sonar Training Target configuration Gavia Vehicle in Sonar Training Target configuration with hydrophone cable deployed PRODUCT FEATURES Features: • he Sonar Transponder Module (STM), simulates the echo responses T and acoustic signatures of a range of underwater targets • Cost effective, reusable solution for ASW training • ontrol of the STM is fully integrated into the Gavia user interface C and mission planning. • Man portable and rapidly deployed • an be operated from standard Gavia vehicles configured for C other tasks when not conducting ASW training • Wide array of additional sensors available for Gavia AUVs

Sonar Training Target-2

A Teledyne Gavia Sonar Training Target Datasheet Sonar Training Target Autonomous Underwater Vehicles TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS STM Module (from Scanmatic AS, Norway) The following operational modes are supported by the STM. Echo repeat mode Weight: 10kg Frequency range: The Sonar Training Target (STT) will for the sonar sensor look as a submarine travelling with the speed of the platform and with a maximum target strength of 20 dB, which is a typical medium size submarine. Noise transmit: Store repeat When a sonar ping is detected by the STM, a pre-recorded echo is repeated. This mode gives the...
