Product catalog summary
Product Overview
HAWK EPOXY is a clear, low-viscosity epoxy system suitable for various construction and repair projects. It is compatible with surfaces like wood, fiberglass, metals, foam, plastic, and fabrics. The system includes different catalysts and fillers for fast or slow curing and varying application thicknesses.
Specifications
  • Epoxy Resin: Available in sizes from 1 quart to 4.35 gallons, forming a high-strength plastic with excellent moisture barrier properties.
  • Catalysts: Four types are available for different temperature conditions and curing times:
    • C1 Ultra Slow Catalyst: Suitable for warm conditions, with a pot life of 40-50 minutes at 70°F.
    • C2 Slow Cure Catalyst: For moderate temperatures, with a pot life of 20-25 minutes at 70°F.
    • C3 Fast Cure Catalyst: Ideal for colder temperatures, with a pot life of 9-12 minutes at 70°F.
    • C5 Clear Finish Catalyst: Used for clear coating and carbon fiber applications, with a pot life of 22-27 minutes at 70°F.
Procedures
  • Mixing: Mix resin and catalyst thoroughly according to specified ratios. Adjust filler amount for desired consistency.
  • Application: Apply on clean, dry surfaces. Sand non-porous substrates for better adhesion.
Fillers
Six types of fillers are available for specific applications like bonding, laminating, and fairing, affecting the mixture's strength and sandability.
Recommendations
Choose the same size for both resin and catalyst. Adjust the mix ratio based on the catalyst and environmental conditions. Use the filler selection guide for appropriate filler choice.
Mixing and Application Instructions
Detailed instructions emphasize using the exact mixing ratio for optimal curing. The mixture should be in a clean, non-porous container, avoiding foam and glass. For 30-KT Hawk Pumps, one pump push each of Catalyst and R1 Resin achieves the correct ratio.
Mixing Process
Stir R1 Epoxy Resin and Catalyst thoroughly for one to two minutes, ensuring all materials are mixed. Optional fillers can be added. Ensure adequate ventilation.
Temperature Considerations
Do not alter the mix ratio for temperature changes. Higher temperatures speed up curing, while lower temperatures require more time. Using resin below 40°F (4°C) can damage the cure.
Cleanup and Storage
Use S-80 Wax N Grease Killer, acetone, or MEK for cleanup. Manage spills with inert absorbents. Store in a sealed, well-ventilated area at 40°-90°F (32°-4ºC). Extended storage may cause color changes or thickening, but these do not affect the final product's characteristics.
Coverage and Package Sizes
Lists coverage areas for different package sizes and combinations of R1 Resin with various Catalysts for saturation and buildup coats.
Applications and Benefits
Suitable for fiberglass construction and repairs, home and boat manufacturing, and repairs. Bonds well to wood, fiberglass, metals, fabrics, and various foams and plastics. Noted for high tensile strength, durability, ease of use, excellent bonding strength, water resistance, and cost-effectiveness.

The flexibility of HAWK EPOXY lies in its huge range of CATALYST and FILLERS to adapt to any situation. If you need a fast cure due to schedule constraints or if you need a very thick fairing compound, HAWK EPOXY has the situation covered. After the application is cured, it can be sanded into fine tuned shape for the highest quality finish. With it's ease of use, thin layer roll out capabilities and low blush, HAWK EPOXY is the easy choice for all epoxy resin projects. STEP 1 - EPOXY RESIN (CHOOSE SYSTEM SIZE) R1 Epoxy Resin - a smooth, low-viscosity liquid epoxy resin. With a variety of Hawk Epoxy Catalysts, it can be cured under a wide range of temperatures and environmental conditions to form a high-strength plastic with superior moisture barrier characteristics. Hawk Epoxy is available in four system sizes color coded on each label. Note: Mix ratios vary by catalyst. For optimal product utilization, be sure to choose the same Size for both the resin and catalyst. Refer to page 4 for Directions for Use. STEP 2 - SELECT YOUR CATALYST Resin/ Catalyst Advantages *Epoxy cures faster at higher temperatures and in thicker applications.
