Product catalog summary
Introduction
Crystic VE676-03 is a bisphenol A epoxy-based vinyl ester resin designed for closed mould applications and centrifugal casting processes. It is suitable for manufacturing fibre reinforced composite tanks, vessels, and ducts used in chemical processing and marine applications.
Features and Benefits
This resin offers excellent resistance to a wide range of chemical substances, including acids, alkalis, and oxidizing agents.
Product Characteristics
  • Formulation: The resin should reach a workshop temperature of 18ºC-20ºC before use. It requires Accelerator G (1% Cobalt) and Acetyl Acetone for curing, with Trigonox 239 as the recommended catalyst. Catalyst and accelerator must not be mixed directly due to the risk of explosive reactions.
  • Typical Properties: The liquid resin is yellow with a viscosity of 175 ± 25 mPas at 25ºC, an acid value of max 8.5 mgKOH/g, and a volatile content of 50 ± 2%. The fully cured resin has a Barcol hardness of 45, a deflection temperature under load of 98ºC, and a tensile strength of 75 MPa.
Laminate Properties
For CSM/WR laminate, the glass content is 40%. Flexural strength and modulus, tensile strength and modulus, and compressive strength are provided for various temperatures, indicating performance under elevated temperatures.
Post Curing
Laminates should be post-cured for optimal properties. Initial curing at 20°C for 24 hours followed by oven curing at 80°C for at least 3 hours is recommended. Post curing at 100°C is advisable for high-temperature applications.
Storage and Packaging
The resin should be stored in the dark at temperatures below 20ºC, not exceeding 30ºC, in closed containers. It is supplied in 225kg drums.
Health & Safety
Refer to the separate Material Safety Data Sheet for detailed safety information.

CRYSTIC® VE676-03PA-1

SCOTT BADER Introduction Crystic VE676-03 is a bisphenol A epoxy based, vinyl ester resin. Applications Crystic VE676-03 was designed for use in closed mould applications and centrifugal casting processes. It is recommended for the manufacture of fibre reinforced composite tanks, vessels, ducts etc. for use in chemical processing applications and in marine applications. Features and Benefits Crystic VE676-03 has excellent resistance to a wide range of chemical substances (acid, alkalies and oxidising agents). Product Characteristics Formulation Crystic VE 676-03 should be allowed to attain workshop temperature (18°C-20°C) before use. It requires the addition of a catalyst and accelerators to start the curing reaction. The correct amount of Accelerator G (1% Cobalt) and Acetyl Acetone should be stirred into the resin. The recommended catalyst is Trigonox 239, which should be added at 2% into the resin and thoroughly dispersed. The geltime can be adjusted by varying the levels of Acetyl Acetone. N.B. Catalyst and accelerator must not be mixed directly together, as they can react with explosive violence. Typical properties The following tables give typical properties of Crystic VE 676-03 when tested in accordance with the appropriate BS, or BS EN ISO test method. * Curing Schedule - 24 hrs at 20°C, 3 hrs at 80°C. fCuring Schedule - 24 hrs at 20°C, 5 hrs at 80°C, 3 hrs at 120°C.

Laminate Construction - Veil, 2 x CSM, WR, CSM, WR, CSM Post Curing Satisfactory laminates for many applications can be made from Crystic VE676-03 by curing at workshop temperature (20°C). However, for optimum properties and long term performance laminates must be post cured before being put into service. Mouldings should be allowed to cure for 24 hours at 20°C and then be oven cured for a minimum of 3 hours at 80°C. Post curing at 100°C is advisable if mouldings are to operate at high temperatures. Storage Crystic VE 676-03 should be stored in the dark in suitable closed containers. It is recommended...
