Overview
The SCHOTTEL Navigator is a compact and reliable propulsion unit designed for a wide range of vessels. It combines a Rudderpropeller and engine to provide 360-degree steerable maneuverability, making it suitable for diverse maritime applications.

Design and Components
The Navigator features a compact design with all main components mounted on a base frame, including a diesel engine, daily fuel tank, and an integrated switch cabinet for electrical and electronic monitoring. The propulsion system uses a SCHOTTEL Rudderpropeller, which can be hydraulically adjusted for optimal thrust and maintenance.

Installation and Maintenance
Installation is straightforward, requiring only bolting onto a prepared foundation. SCHOTTEL provides installation drawings tailored to customer needs. The unit is designed for easy maintenance with features like hinged doors and a swing-out facility.

Product Variants
Several variants of the Navigator are available to meet specific needs:
  • NAV Resiliently Mounted: Reduces structure-borne noise with resilient mounting and thrust bearing.
  • NAV Onatra: A simplified version without motorization, suitable for barge installations.
  • NAV Basic: Includes essential components like the diesel engine and fuel tank, requiring minimal shipyard connections.
  • NAV Sound-Proof: Features an insulated canopy to reduce noise levels.
  • NAV Offshore: Designed for offshore conditions with corrosion-resistant features and forced ventilation.

Steering System and Motorization
The Navigator's steering system is crucial for effective propulsion, featuring an electro-hydraulic redundant system with emergency capabilities. The unit is powered by CAT or MAN diesel engines, with speed regulation options available.

Applications
The SCHOTTEL Navigator is used in various applications, including floating cranes, grab dredgers, dump barges, and ferries, demonstrating its versatility and adaptability.

SCHOTTEL NAVIGATOR – THE COMPLETE PROPULSION UNIT For more than 50 years, the SCHOTTEL Navigator (NAV) has been a byword for a reliable and compact propulsion unit suitable for use on an extremely diverse range of vessels. In principle the NAV, an adaptation of the SCHOTTEL Rudderpropeller (SRP), is a largescale mobile outboard plant, providing the vessel with 360 degrees steerable manoeuvrability. COMPACT DESIGN All main components of the SCHOTTEL Navigator are mounted on the base frame, which also accommodates the daily fuel tank. A canopy protects the complete unit. A diesel engine is used...

APPLICATION ORIENTED PRODUCT VARIANTS All NAV variants can also be supplied with a ducted propeller. Rudderpropellers without nozzles are fitted with an anticavitation plate over the propeller to prevent air intake. NAV ONATRA The simplified version of the SCHOTTEL Navigator, Onatra (see fig. Barge installation), comprises the steering and propulsion system without motorization: a Rudderpropeller fixed to a vertical frame welded to a base frame, with the hydraulic unit, battery box and switch cabinet. The clutch, hydraulic pump, cardan shaft and control panels are supplied separately. The engine...

STEERING SYSTEM AND MOTORIZATION Propulsion systems are only as good as their steering. Optimally adapted data exchange between the different components is therefore top priority. A further priority is a user interface that is as intuitive as possible, enabling safe manoeuvring. Here too, SCHOTTEL steering systems set the course, both literally and figuratively. proportionally. This means that small steering angles are electronically transformed into smooth steering movements and large steering angles are transformed into fast steering movements including an acceleration and deceleration ramp....
