Overview of Hull Types and Performance Characteristics

The document explains the fundamental differences between displacement hulls, planing hulls, and semi-planing (half-planing) hulls. Displacement hulls have a natural top speed limited by the wave length they generate. Planing hulls achieve higher speeds by generating hydrodynamic lift, minimizing negative pressure under the hull, and ventilating the transom. However, planing hulls experience a "resistance hump" at intermediate speeds, causing high drag and uncomfortable wave impacts, which drivers try to pass quickly.

Semi-planing hulls, such as the SAGA series, are designed to operate efficiently in this difficult intermediate speed range. Unlike some boats misclassified as semi-planers, true semi-planing hulls have no problematic speed zones and perform well from low to maximum speeds, offering better comfort and fuel efficiency in rough seas.

The SAGA 7000, introduced over 30 years ago, pioneered the wide-bodied semi-planing hull concept. Since then, the SAGA family has evolved with continuous refinements to meet market needs. These boats feature a long keel, ample lateral plane, and balanced fore and aft buoyancy, ensuring excellent seaworthiness, maneuverability, directional stability, and comfort in various sea conditions.

310 Model Cockpit and Bathing Platform

The SAGA 310 model offers a well-designed cockpit and bathing platform that facilitate safe and easy boarding. Steps integrated into the bathing platform and near the galley provide convenient access to the foredeck whether the canopy is deployed or stowed. The cockpit features a large U-shaped seating area convertible into a sunbed by lowering the table. The galley is well-equipped with a gas oven (three burners), an 85-liter refrigerator, and a separate icebox (cooling unit optional). The Corian countertop simplifies cleaning and maintenance. Large windows provide excellent visibility and ventilation, complemented by a large sliding soft top (optional twin sliding hatches). The helm is ergonomically designed with full control access and includes a double co-pilot seat at the same level. Easy access to the engine room and aft storage is provided via spacious deck hatches.

Cabin and Sanitary Facilities

The forward cabin offers two layout options: a V-shaped berth with an infill cushion or a fixed double berth with side seating. The midships cabin comfortably accommodates two persons and includes a ventilation window. The combined toilet and shower room is spacious with full standing height, enhancing onboard comfort.
