Fitting and operating manual for Prestige hatches Congratulations on choosing our Prestige hatch. You have purchased a quality product that has been designed with great attention to detail and will give you many years of pleasurable use. Safety First of all a warning: never set sail on open water with open hatches. Check that these are all closed before setting sail! Application The Prestige escape hatch satisfies the requirements of ISO12216 • Design category A (ocean-going). • Fitting in area II (deck and stern area) on board the ship. Installation 1. Check that the size of the hole on the ship is the same as the dimensions of the hatch delivered. 2. Only fit the escape hatch on a completely flat surface. An uneven surface can result in a poorly functioning escape hatch and possible leakage. If the surface is not flat it must be smoothed or filled as required. 3. Position the hatch in the hole so that any play is spread evenly around it. Mark the fixing holes for the hatch on the surface, drill the holes and remove any burrs. 4. Clean the surface on the deck where the hatch is to be positioned and the flange of the escape hatch. Make sure that there is no grease on it. 5. Spread the sealant on the underside of the flange. 6. Position the hatch in the hole making sure that the holes in the flange of the escape hatch match up with those drilled in the deck. Now fit the fixing bolts and nuts. Use stainless steel fixing materials only. 7. Remove the protective foil from the outside of the acrylic window. 8. Check that the hatch is watertight after the sealant has hardened. 9. Remove the protective film from the acrylic. Do this before the porthole is exposed to daylight. Exposure to sunlight causes the film stick to the acrylic. Testing the hatch for watertightness After installation in the ship’s side a check must be made to see that the hatch is watertight (despite the CE-approval) according to the method and test results as stated in NEN-EN-ISO standard 12216 (see Annex D: D.1.3.3, D.1.4.1 and D.1.4.2). Usage possiblities • The hatch is fitted with maintenance free friction hinges tha allow the hatch to remain opened in any position. The hinges are not adjustable. • The handles can be operated on both inside and outside. • The hatch can be opened in a so-called ventilation position. A small opening allows fresh air to enter. • The hatch can be locked from the inside with a slider. This can be done in the ventilation position as well as in the fully closed position. In that case a red sticker is exposed indicating that the hatch is locked. Operation Opening: Slide the catches on the handle to the open position (towards the middle of the escape hatch). Turn the handles a quarter turn and push the hatch outwards. Ventilation position: The escape hatch can be locked slightly open by locking the handles in the inside edge of the outer frame. When the catches are put back in the closed position the hatch can then not be opened from the outside. Closing: Make sure that the handles are in the open position (at right-angles to the underside of the hatch), and pull the hatch closed. Turn the handles a quarter turn and lock them with the catches.

Maintenance • The hinges must never be greased! We use hinges with adjustable friction force. These must never be lubricated. If the hinges are greased they will lose their working and the porthole will no longer remain open at any desired position. • The best way of maintaining the aluminium is to use liquid paraffin. Never use alkaline cleaners, like soda. • The PMMA plastic glazing is easily scratched. Therefore, use a soft cloth for cleaning. • The plastic glazing is damaged by the use of chemicals like: alcohol, thinner, petrol, glass-sprays, cleaning spirit, soda, and ammonia. These...
