Product catalog summary
Product Overview: Pontoon Pro is a multi-season antifouling paint specifically designed for pontoon boats and aluminum hulls. It utilizes a copper-free Econea biocide to prevent galvanic corrosion and includes an additional organic biocide for slime protection. The self-polishing ablative paint film prevents paint build-up and eliminates the need for sanding.
Physical Data: The paint has an eggshell finish and is available in black (1008). It is a single-component paint with a solvent release curing mechanism. Theoretical solids are 80% by weight and 59% by volume, with a coverage of 500 sq. ft/gal. VOC content is 320 g/l. Active ingredients include 6.0% Econea and 4.80% Zinc Omadine. The flash point is 105°F.
Application Data: The paint can be applied using a brush, roller, or spray methods. Recommended application involves 2 or 3 coats with a dry film thickness of 1.5 mils per coat. Application temperature ranges from 40°F to 90°F. Dry times vary with temperature, with a minimum of 2 hours at 90°F for recoating and launching. Thinners include 120 Brushing Thinner and 121 Spraying Thinner.
Surface Preparation and Maintenance: Proper surface preparation is crucial for optimal performance. Previously painted surfaces should be sanded and cleaned before applying Pontoon Pro. For bare aluminum, wax coatings must be removed using 92 Bio-Blue Hull Surface Prep or D-95 Dewaxer. Regular maintenance involves checking the boat bottom for cleanliness and growth.
Systems and Procedures: For previously painted surfaces in good condition, sand and apply two thin coats of Pontoon Pro. For bare aluminum, apply a metal primer followed by two finish coats. For maximum corrosion resistance, use Pettit 4400/4401 Aluma-Protect Epoxy Primer and Pettit-Protect High Build Epoxy Primer before applying Pontoon Pro. For hulls damaged by electrolysis or corrosion, additional steps include sandblasting, using Splash-Zone A-788 Epoxy Repair Compound, and applying multiple primer coats before the final Pontoon Pro application.

Pontoon Pro Antifouling for Aluminum Hulls TECHNICAL BULLETIN 1008 6/13  Multi-season antifouling paint designed for pontoon boats and aluminum hulls Uses copper-free Econea biocide - will not cause galvanic corrosion Second organic biocide added for slime protection Self-polishing ablative paint film eliminates paint build up and the need for sanding Compatible over all bottom paints Pontoon Pro was designed specifically for pontoon boats and aluminum hulls. It combines the breakthrough, metal-free Econea™ biocide with a powerful slime fighting agent for dual-biocide, multi-season protection. This copper-free formula can be safely applied to all aluminum hulled boats. It provides excellent antifouling protection, with an ablative surface that polishes with use. The paint film wears away over time like a bar of soap, eliminating build up or the need for sanding between coats. It can be used over all previously painted surfaces in good condition. Pontoon Pro can be hauled and re-launched without any loss of effectiveness. One or two coats per season are recommended for optimal performance.
