Product catalog summary
Overview: The Orkney 452 is a robust and seaworthy boat designed with the serious sea angler in mind. It is easy to tow and launch, featuring a self-draining cockpit when underway and a GRP side-mounted console with push-pull wheel steering.
Specifications: The boat has a length overall (LOA) of 14’10” (4.52m) and a beam of 6’0” (1.83m). The hull weight is 805 lbs (365 kg), and it supports a maximum of 30 hp long shaft engine. The design speed is 23 knots, with an optimum speed of 16 knots. Performance varies with engine power: 15 hp achieves 10 knots, 20 hp reaches 18 knots, and 30 hp hits 23 knots.
Design Features: The 452 offers a safe and secure cockpit with a 26” interior freeboard. It includes ample storage within seat boxes and aft lockers, and an optional cuddy for forward shelter. The hull design, influenced by Nelson, ensures stability and a soft ride, with a pronounced V in the forward sections and a moderate V aft.
Construction: The boat is constructed with hand-laid laminated GRP using isophthalic resin, stiffened below the waterline with a GRP girder system. The main underfloor areas are foam-filled, and the cockpit is self-draining. It features a monocoque deck bonded to the hull and backbone for a high strength-to-weight structure.
Additional Features: The steering console provides storage and space for electronics. Aft seats offer storage for two fuel tanks, with a semi-concealed plinth for the battery. The boat includes a stainless steel winch eye, stemhead roller, mooring cleat, stern cleats, and a tough PVC fender strip with stainless steel end caps.
Performance and Handling: The boat is compact and light enough to be towed by a family car on an unbraked trailer, yet it offers excellent seakeeping capabilities. The design ensures sure-footed handling in challenging conditions, making launching and recovery simple, especially with the optional Orkney multi-roller trailer.
