Product catalog summary
Overview
The Clamparatus is a mounting system designed for attaching acoustic Doppler profilers, acoustic modems, or other subsurface sensor systems to existing navigation buoys. It facilitates real-time navigation data provision by securing instruments and data transmission equipment to standard Aid to Navigation (ATON) buoys.
Functionality
The Clamparatus attaches securely to buoys without requiring any modifications such as cutting, drilling, or welding. It uses a proprietary clamping system to ensure stability. The system continuously transmits current velocity information from the ADCP to a shore station, which then provides data to ship operations via the NOAA PORTS system.
Applications
Developed in collaboration with Nortek USA and Oceanscience in 2000, the Clamparatus is recognized by NOAA as a reliable method for obtaining navigation data. It is used on ATON buoys along US coastlines and in private ports, harbors, and university research for real-time ocean current monitoring.
Design and Appearance
The Clamparatus is painted with corrosion-resistant materials and colors matching Coast Guard buoys. It is utilized by organizations such as Chevron, NOAA, the US Coast Guard, universities, and regulatory agencies.

Clamparatus Spec Sheet-1

Clamparatus Profiler Mounts for Buoys For Buoy Mount Measurements Mount an acoustic Doppler profiler, acoustic modem or other subsurface sensor systems onto an existing navigation buoy with the Oceanscience Clamparatus. The unique design of the Clamparatus system facilitates provision of real time navigation data by securing the instrument and associated data transmission equipment to standard Aid to Navigation (ATON) buoys. How the Clamparatus Works The Clamparatus does not require the buoy to which it is attached to be cut, drilled, welded on or changed in any way. It is securely attached to the buoy with a proprietary clamping system. Current velocity information from the ADCP on the Clamparatus is continuously telemetered to the shore station, and from there offered to ship operations to assist navigation through the NOAA PORTS system. Uses for the Clamparatus Originally designed in 2000 through the collaboration of Nortek USA and Oceanscience, the Clamparatus and Aquadopp current profiler combination was recognized by NOAA as a reliable and robust method to obtain valuable navigation data. NOAA has since placed Clamparatii aand Aquadopp ADCP’s on ATON buoys along US Coastlines in many major ports. Private ports, harbors and university research groups have also installed these systems for real-time monitoring of ocean currents. Appearance For corrosion resistance and appearance, the Clamparatus is painted with the same system and colors used on Coast Guard buoys. The Clamparaus system has been used by Cheveron, NOAA, US Coast Guard, Universities and regulatory agencies. www.oceanscience.com
