GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The 11.3 metre X-38 is a revolutionary stepped-hull high speed design which can also be configured for sheer pleasure, commercial, patrol or military use. It offers superior sea-keeping, efficiency, speed and safety in all operating conditions and is well suited for offshore fishing, diving and open water crossings, with predicted speeds of 45+ knots with twin 250 hp outboards. This cutting-edge Swedish design from Marine Dynamics is the result of many years of ongoing research and has a radical longitudinal single step that reduces hull resistance when planning. The boat actually rides on 4 planning surfaces which reduce in size as the boats’ speed increases and the boat rises higher out of the water. This results in a boat that has a stable, level ride, and an increased efficiency of 20 -25% over a conventional hull form, be it catamaran or mono-hull. The boat will be available as an Open Sports model, a Sport Sedan model, or with a Cabin and Flybridge. The Sports model will have full walk-around decks and a large rear deck especially suited to fishing, diving and watersports, it can also be equipped with cool-boxes and cooking facilities. Above this will be the steering station with a spacious seating / relaxation area. A soft or hard top roof can be fitted over this area for weather protection. Both models can have 2 private double cabins forward and a large sun bathing area on the deck above. The Fly-bridge model will have an enclosed saloon cabin for relaxing and entertaining that can be airconditioned. To maximise space in the saloon and simplify systems the steering station will be mounted up on the fly-bridge. With large settees, such a stable ride and an elevated position the flybridge will be the place of choice. It can also serve as a rest area for the crew if privacy is required. CONSTRUCTION: Is Hand-laid composite GRP, with cored sandwich panels. The hull is made of multi-directional fibre glass layers, with additional carbon stringer strengthening. The balsa and closed-cell high density foam cores increase panel stiffness and reduce the weight usually associated with solid GRP boats. This offers great strength and robustness and maximises hull integrity in the event of a collision. The boat is self-draining as the cockpit deck is above the waterline. ENGINES AND PROPULSION: For simplicity of maintenance and operation the boat is powered by outboard motors, using two motors and counter-rotating propellers (other engine configurations are also available). Stainless steel propellers are highly recommended for higher performance and come as standard with the larger size Suzuki engines. Current planning is to use the fuel efficient DF 250 hp. four stroke engines. Suzuki are releasing a new 300 Hp model shortly. STEERING AND ENGINES CONTROLS: The steering system is hydraulically operated, and on the Sports model the lower steering station will be centrally located behind a large wrap-around windscreen. The gear shift and throttle controls are genuine parts matching the brand of engine selected. A Fly-by-wire steering system will accompany the Suzuki 300 hp four stroke outboard engines. All instruments and controls are clearly visible and accessible.
