Transas Pilot PRO

Product catalog summary
Overview: This document serves as a user guide for the Transas Pilot PRO system, specifically when used with Navicom Dynamics sensors such as the GyroPilot and ChannelPilot. It includes setup, operation, and troubleshooting instructions.
Revision History: The guide is at version 1.1, updated on July 6, 2016, with corrections to IP addresses for the GyroPilot and ChannelPilot Mk3.
Transas Pilot PRO with Navicom Dynamics GyroPilot:
  • Preparations: Ensure both the iPad and GyroPilot are charged. Configure connection settings in the Pilot PRO app using specified IP addresses and ports.
  • On the Bridge: Position the GyroPilot near the AIS Pilot Plug, power it on, and verify LED status. Calibration is automatic upon receiving ship data.
  • During Pilotage: Adjust heading errors using the Pilot PRO app. Confirm ship dimensions and AIS antenna reference points are accurate.
  • End of Pilotage: Power off the GyroPilot and monitor the connection to avoid leaving the device behind.
Transas Pilot PRO with Navicom Dynamics ChannelPilot:
  • Preparations: Fully charge the ChannelPilot and adjust connection settings in the Pilot PRO app.
  • On the Bridge: Place the ChannelPilot appropriately and power it on. Ensure proper calibration by checking its position relative to the bridge-bow datum mark.
  • Initialization: Program the MMSI via the Pilot PRO app to transmit heading or rate-of-turn data.
Comments:
  • Heading and ROT Information: The GyroPilot uses HDG information from AIVDO messages and its internal gyro for NMEA ROT messages.
  • GPS Information: Defaults to AVIDO GPS position but can switch to internal GPS if disconnected from the Pilot Plug.
ChannelPilot Initialization Procedure: The ChannelPilot requires an AIS transmission from the vessel for initialization. MMSI must be provided using either the “Set as Own Ship” button or manually entering it in the settings. Calibration needs at least two AIS messages and takes a minimum of 2 minutes.
Important Notes:
  • Re-sending the same MMSI during calibration is ignored unless the ChannelPilot is restarted.
  • For stationary vessels, set AIS to ‘Underway using engine’ to expedite calibration.
Pilot PRO Connection Checklist: Ensure the iPad is connected to the CP device via Wi-Fi and check the TCP connection in the Pilot PRO app. Once initialized, ChannelPilot outputs GPS, AIS targets, Heading, and ROT data.
Adjustments during Pilotage: Use the “HDG & POS offset widget” in Pilot PRO to correct heading errors. Main heading offsets can be adjusted, and the ‘Reset All’ button cancels all offsets.
Ship Dimensions and AIS Antenna Reference Point: During initialization, AIS Ship Dimensions are automatically accepted. Manually adjust the ChannelPilot’s location post-initialization for accurate data recalculation.
End of Pilotage: Power off by pressing the power button for 4 seconds. Clean and store the ChannelPilot in a dry place. Disconnect the MF DGPS Beacon unit to prevent battery discharge. Recharge the battery every 3 months for long-term storage, and ensure the unit is warm before use in extreme temperatures.

Transas Marine Limited 10 Eastgate Avenue, Eastgate Business park, Little Island, Cork, Ireland [email protected] [email protected] www.transas.com www.transaspilot.com The GyroPilot uses the HDG information from the Pilot Plug’s AIVDO messages, as well as its own internal gyro, to calculate NMEA ROT messages. Since the AIVDO HDG messages are used to calibrate and bleed‐back the internal gyro, this means that the NMEA ROT messages produced are derived from both sets of information. Note, that the GyroPilot does not use ROT messages from the Pilot Plug for any calculations; however, it does pass on all AIS ...

Filtering of the Own Ship AIS target presentation will be switched on automatically after that. Filtering may be disabled by the deletion of the Own Ship MMSI number using the ...
