Product catalog summary

Overview of CODEG Propulsion System

CODEG stands for Combined Diesel and Gas Turbine Electric Drive System, designed primarily for cruise ships. It integrates 1 or 2 gas turbine generator sets with 2 to 4 diesel engine generator sets to supply electric power for propulsion and onboard electrical demands. Exhaust gas heat boilers utilize gas turbine exhaust for steam production, supporting hotel accommodations onboard.

Key Components and Technologies

  • Gas Turbine Generator Sets: Based on proven GE LM2500 and LM2500+ turbines.
  • Diesel Engine Generator Sets: Utilize the low-emission MTU 20V 8000 M50 diesel engines.
  • Accessories: Customized ship-side equipment including hydraulic starting systems, fuel service systems, and silencers.
  • Integration and Support: Professional installation, integration, and service support provided by MTU.

Environmental and Operational Advantages

  • Emission Compliance: Both diesel engines and gas turbines meet stringent NOx and SOx emission regulations, complying with CLEAN class notation per DNV rules without secondary methods.
  • Noise Reduction: Double elastic mounting of diesel engines and elastic mounting of gas turbines reduce structure-borne noise. Additional silencers minimize airborne noise from exhaust and inlet air.
  • Space Optimization: Compact design and flexible placement of generator sets, including the possibility to locate gas turbines on upper decks, reduce machinery space and allow for additional cabins.
  • Low Maintenance and Personnel Costs: Engines are designed for easy operation and long maintenance intervals, lowering overall personnel and upkeep expenses.

Performance and Efficiency

  • Gas turbines operate efficiently at 90% to maximum power rating, ideal for high load demands.
  • Diesel engines provide competitive fuel consumption at part loads, complementing the gas turbines for varying power needs.
  • Exhaust heat recovery from gas turbines supports steam generation, enhancing overall energy efficiency.

CODEG stands for "Combined Diesel and Gas TurbirT rive System". A CODEG propulsion system consists depending on the size of the ship of 1 or 2 gas turbines generator sets and 2 to 4 diesel engine generator sets. Every set is providing electric power for the electric propulsion motors and also for the on-board electric power demand. The steam needed for the hotel accommodation will be produced by exhaust gas heat boilers, located in the exhaust gas ducts of the gas turbines.
