In 1737, two businessmen, Esaias Wechter and Heinrich Remgean, started building wooden craft in the town of Turku. Some years later, in 1751, Augustin Ehrensvärd began the construction of the Sveaborg Fortress off Helsinki on behalf of the Swedish government.
