NB 1380 NEW GENERATION DOUBLE ENDED FERRY The new vessel will be a modern double ended car ferry which is designed for short voyages in sheltered waters in Finland, on the Korppoo - Norrskata - Houtskari route. The length and the challenging ice conditions of the route will set special requirements on the performance of the vessel. The hull of the 65 metres long ferry will fulfill the Finnish Ice-Class 1A dimensioning criteria ensuring the vessel's good icebreaking and ice-going capability. The vessel has a diesel-electric power plant propulsion engine, which utilises Z drive rudder propellers at both Particular attention has been given to the efficiency and safety of the ferry. The docking time of the vessel has been minimized by using wide bow and stern ramps and by designing the ferry as a double ended vessel, meaning that it can run in both directions. The vessel will be constructed in accordance with the safety regulations defined in the EU shipbuilding directive and it will be the first vessel to reach the new generation safety level. The new double ended ferry will start to oper- capacity to carry 249 passengers and crew members, 65 cars or 39 cars and three lorries. A modern passenger seating saloon located on deck 4 will offer new services to the passengers and it will also be designed to serve passengers with reduced mobility. Access from the main deck to the passenger saloon will be arranged from the port side of the vessel via external stairs and one lift. The saloon will be equipped with a cafeteria. The crew public spaces are located on deck 5.
