Product catalog summary
Product Overview: This document is a technical catalogue for the MA - A4 - B4 - B5 series of three-phase squirrel cage induction motors by MarelliMotori, covering sizes 63 to 400. MarelliMotori is part of the FKI group and is known for its quality in manufacturing rotating machines for industrial, petrochemical, and marine sectors.
Product Code Structure: Motors are identified by a 13-digit code on the nameplate, indicating design revision, frame size, material, and execution description. Frame sizes range from 63 to 400, with materials including aluminum and cast iron.
Standards and Compliance: The motors comply with European standards and directives, including electromagnetic compatibility, low voltage, and machine directives. They are CE marked, ensuring free trade within the European Community.
Energy Efficiency: MarelliMotori is committed to energy efficiency classes (eff1, eff2, eff3) for motors, enhancing motor lifespan, voltage variation tolerance, and overload resistance.
Technical Characteristics: Motors are designed for continuous duty (S1) with IP55 protection, class F insulation, and a temperature rise compatible with class B. They are suitable for installations up to 1000m above sea level.
Protective Treatment: Internal surfaces are tropicalized to prevent corrosion, and external surfaces are painted for environmental resistance. Special painting processes are available for harsh environments.
Mountings and Positions: Motors are available in various mounting configurations (B3, B5, B14, etc.) as per IEC-60034-7 standards, with lifting eye bolts for sizes 100 and above.
Cooling and Materials: Standard cooling is IC 411, with options for IC 416 and IC 418. Mechanical components are made from materials like aluminum, cast iron, and steel, depending on the frame size.
Balancing and Vibration: Motors are balanced to vibration severity grade A, with options for grade B. Vibration levels are specified for different shaft heights and mounting conditions.
Noise Levels: Noise levels are specified for different frame sizes and pole configurations, with options to reduce noise using special fans.
Bearings: Bearings have a theoretical lifetime exceeding 50,000 hours, with lubrication intervals specified for different frame sizes and operating conditions.
Specifications: The document provides detailed specifications for motors of various frame sizes, focusing on lubrication intervals, bearing types, and axial and radial force limits. Motors from frame sizes 160 to 250 can be equipped with grease nipples, and the lubrication intervals vary based on the motor speed and frame size. For motors without grease nipples, lubrication intervals are also specified.
Bearings: The document outlines the types of bearings used for different motor frame sizes and configurations, including horizontal and vertical arrangements. It specifies the bearing types for both the drive end (D-end) and non-drive end (N-end) of the motors.
Axial and Radial Forces: Maximum allowable axial and radial forces are detailed for both horizontal and vertical mounting arrangements. The document provides specific values for different frame sizes and pole configurations, with adjustments for motors operating at 60Hz.
Terminal Box and Cable Entry: Information on the terminal box placement and cable entry specifications is provided, including the ability to rotate the terminal box and the types of terminals used for different frame sizes.
Grounding and Condensation Drainage: The document specifies grounding requirements and the need for condensation drainage holes in motors used in humid environments. It also discusses the use of anticondensation heaters to prevent moisture buildup.
Thermal Protections: Various thermal protection options are described, including bimetallic devices, PTC thermistors, and PT100 sensors. These protections are designed to prevent overheating and are available in different configurations depending on the motor frame size.
Connection Diagrams: The document includes connection diagrams for motors with six terminals, detailing configurations for different speed settings and winding arrangements.
Specifications and Performance: The document outlines the performance characteristics of motors during starting, emphasizing the relationship between starting current, torque, and feeding voltage. The starting current is proportional to the feeding voltage, while the starting and maximum torque are proportional to the square of the feeding voltage. The document provides formulas for calculating starting current and torque under different conditions.
Starting Methods:
  • Direct-on-line starting: Involves direct insertion at the feeding line, with starting torque and current values as specified in the catalogue.
  • Star-Delta starting: Suitable for low resistant torque and starting current requirements, reducing torque and current by 28-30%.
  • Soft starter: Gradually increases voltage to limit starting current, adapting to torque conditions for energy savings.
  • Autotransformer: Reduces starting current and torque using similar relationships.
Calculation Example: The document provides a method for calculating starting time using parameters like starting torque, maximum torque, nominal torque, and moments of inertia.
Variable Speed Applications: Motors designed for sinusoidal feeding voltage can be used in variable speed applications with a frequency converter. The performance depends on the cooling type, with self-ventilated motors suitable for quadratic torque/speed shapes and forced ventilation required for constant torque at low speeds.
Voltage and Frequency: The motors are designed to operate under a feeding voltage of 230/400V ± 10% - 50Hz, suitable for various supply voltages. The document also discusses the classification of voltage and frequency variations according to IEC standards.
Testing and Standards: MarelliMotori products undergo routine tests in accordance with CEI/IEC standards, with additional tests available upon request. Electrical tolerances are specified according to IEC 60034-1.
Insulation and Precautions: Motors fed by frequency converters may require reinforced insulation and appropriate filters to handle voltage peaks and wave-fronts. Recommendations are provided for motors with specific frame sizes and voltage conditions.
