V28/33D Series Engines For Naval Vessels

Product catalog summary
Introduction
The V28/33D series engines are designed for naval vessels, particularly offshore patrol vessels, as part of MAN Diesel & Turbo's marine engine program. With over 2,600 engines in service across more than 60 navies, these engines offer versatility and address various naval propulsion needs.

Engine Specifications
Available in V12, V16, and V20-cylinder models, the V28/33D engines deliver power outputs up to 10,000 kW. They meet stringent specifications for noise, vibration, shock, and emissions, and are compact, lightweight, and fuel-efficient, suitable for fast monohull and multi-hull vessels.

Design and Features
The engines feature a simple, functional design with high reliability and low operating costs. Equipped with the SaCoSone safety and control system and the MAN TCA33 turbocharger, they have a 52-degree V-cylinder bank for minimized engine height and easier installation.

Components and Systems
Constructed with high structural strength, the engines include a spheroidal graphite iron crankcase, a high tensile NiCrMo crankshaft, and modular camshafts. Advanced turbocharging systems ensure efficient combustion.

Performance and Efficiency
Offering high power density, the engines have rated outputs of 5,460 kW, 7,280 kW, and 9,100 kW at 1,000 rpm for the V12, V16, and V20-cylinder versions, respectively. For naval applications, these ratings increase to 6,000 kW, 8,000 kW, and 10,000 kW at 1,032 rpm. They are designed for low thermal stress and efficient operation at full and part loads.

Engine Specifications and Features
The upgraded engine features optimized engine-turbocharger matching for high torque at low rpm, reducing fuel consumption, smoke, and noise. It uses two identical MAN TCA33 turbochargers and a digital control system for enhanced air intake at low rpm.

Fuel Injection and Combustion
A microprocessor-managed, solenoid valve-controlled fuel injection system ensures precise control of injection quantity, rate, and timing. Advanced combustion chamber technology and electronically-controlled unit pump injection reduce specific fuel consumption.

Operational Efficiency
The engine operates at low load conditions without visible smoke emissions, maintaining performance and reducing maintenance demands. It supports full propeller pitch operation at all engine speeds.

Emissions and Noise Control
Meeting IMO Tier II and EPA Tier 2 emission regulations, the engine focuses on optimized fuel injection, improved combustion chamber, and high-efficiency charge air cooling, offering low noise emissions and a low thermal signature.

Safety and Control Systems
The SaCoSone system provides engine control, monitoring, and diagnostics, with integrated self-diagnosis, reliability, and remote monitoring capabilities.

Applications and Suitability
Suitable for offshore patrol vessels, corvettes, frigates, and destroyers, the engine supports various propulsion configurations, including diesel-mechanical and electric installations.

Support and Maintenance
MAN PrimeServ offers comprehensive after-sales support, including spare parts supply, maintenance agreements, and training for naval technicians, ensuring high engine availability and operational efficiency.

Annexes
Annex A lists general naval and coast guard references for MAN legacy engines, while Annex B provides a naval reference list for the V28/33D engine.
