MAN Alpha Naval Propellers

Product catalog summary
Overview of MAN Alpha Naval Propellers
MAN Alpha provides high-performance naval propellers designed for both commercial and military marine applications. These propellers focus on efficiency, flexibility, and reduced hydroacoustics, aiming to lower the total cost of ownership and enhance fuel savings.
Specifications and Design
The propellers come in various designs such as controllable pitch propeller (CPP), fixed pitch propeller (FPP), and adjustable bolted propeller (ABP), suitable for propulsion power from 4 to 40 MW. The designs prioritize efficiency by addressing cavitation, pressure impulses, and vibration. The Kappel design notably increases efficiency by up to 6% and reduces noise.
Hydrodynamic Integration
Propeller designs are integrated with the ship's hull and flow-guiding devices to enhance efficiency. Combining Kappel blades with optimized rudder designs can achieve power savings of up to 9%.
Mechanical Robustness
Designed for durability and reliability, MAN Alpha propellers use materials specified for a 30-year lifespan and are optimized for ice operation and shock resistance, meeting military standards.
Operational Advantages
The propellers feature low wear rates, high reliability, and improved maneuverability. They are designed for easy service and inspection, with a multi-radius-fillet design that reduces blade weight and increases cavitation inception speed.
Advanced Tools and Customer Value
MAN Diesel & Turbo employs advanced tools like COPS to optimize propulsion systems. The propellers are adaptable to various propulsion plants, offering tailored solutions for specific installation needs.
After-sales Service
Through its PrimeServ brand, MAN Diesel & Turbo provides comprehensive after-sales service, including spare parts, technical service, and training. The extensive service network ensures global support and quick delivery of high-demand spares.

Hydrodynamic integration and optimisation The perfectioned layout and hydrodynamic propeller integration are always optimised with the ship's hull and any 'flow-guiding' devices placed before the propeller, e.g. pre-swirl fins and vortex-generators. After the propeller, the optimisation will consider high-efficiency rudders, integrated rudder bulbs, post-swirl fins or similar. According to a recent design study, the combination of a 5-bladed propeller with Kappel blades and fairing cone operating with a rudder with integrated rudder bulb will offer a power saving of up to 9%.
