WHERE GUESTS RULE Three Jacuzzis, a gym with a swimming terrace and five guest cabins on the main deck: nobody should pass up an invitation to come aboard 78 metres long “Madsummer“. After “Pelorus”, the baby blue superyacht is the largest yacht to be delivered by Lürssen’s Rendsburg yard yet. Text Marcus Krall Photos Klaus Jordan An eyecatcher: initially the owner wanted a grey hull, but then he went for a flamboyant baby blue. The private Jacuzzi forward of his suite on the upper deck is a radiant turquoise. 46 BOAT EXCLUSIVE 6/09 6/09 BOAT EXCLUSIVE 47

Light and shade: the decks on board “Madsummer” provide plenty of open space for alfresco fans. Blinds and awnings give protection in hot climes, whilst two pools on the sundeck, a circular Jacuzzi and a counter-current swimming pool, provide a welcome opportunity to cool off. They have a combined capacity of 15,000 litres and it takes around 20 minutes to fill them up. As we have seen on other Øino designs for Lürssen owners, there are three in-water barstools. 48 BOAT EXCLUSIVE 6/09 6/09 BOAT EXCLUSIVE 49

A yacht’s wood finishes: the interior designer Alberto Pinto panelled the saloon and dining area in maple. Small dark inlays in some panels are designed to look like blisters and give a maritime touch. The owner decided on two dining tables to enable meals to be more communicative occasions. Whilst the upper bar lounge was given a zebrano look, sycamore was used in corridors and stairwells. Light colours predominate in the entertainment room. 50 BOAT EXCLUSIVE 6/09 6/09 BOAT EXCLUSIVE 51

More suite than cabin: on board “Madsummer” guests are accommodated in grand apartments on the main deck. Each one has a different colour theme – red, blue, yellow and pink. Even the books on the shelves match the colour in each case. However the owner resides one deck above the guests (opposite). His domain consists of an office, two bathrooms, two dressing rooms, a small bedroom and a second larger one with a 180° view ahead. 52 BOAT EXCLUSIVE 6/09 6/09 BOAT EXCLUSIVE 53

atmosphere is also created by Imposing superstructure: on board “Mad- the bar to port, a seating summer” the owner and captain have the arrangement with a massive leather stool at its centre plus the TV, the screen of which can be neatly hidden behind a painting when not in use. Designer Alberto Pinto had practically all the furniture made by French cabinet- makers; he also ensured that “off-the-peg” items matched the overall concept. the look of the wood finish. However the suite’s highlight is outside – a seating arrangement with a private Jacuzzi is located in front of the panorama windows. The main deck however shows that the owner is not egocentric, despite these privileged facilities. Hospitality could almost be said to the key theme here – the bow section features five spacious cabins, primarily for family and friends; “Madsummer” is only chartered out to outsiders on a very limited and selective basis.
