“Arkley” off the Côte d’Azur: there is no mistaking the very deliberate similarities between this Øino design and Lürssen’s “Linda Lou” also by Øino, whose lines impressed “Arkley’s” owner. The shipyard’s engineers installed large fuel tanks giving a range of 7,000 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 12 knots.

FORMULA FOR AN OWNER IN A HURRY The latest 60-metre to emerge from Lürssen is called “Arkley”. As the owner was desperate to get sailing as quickly as possible, he opted for a tried and tested formula. But there is no sign of ennui. Text Martin Hager Photos Klaus Jordan 4/10 BOAT EXCLUSIVE 41

Well-balanced: the saloon (left) is rounded off aft by windows and doors. Up forward a bog oak dining table with silver leaf ornamentation awaits guests. A Porsche Design/Bösendorfer self-playing grand piano located in the passageway provides the entertainment. A projector and screen transform the saloon into a large cinema (bottom right). 4/10 BOAT EXCLUSIVE 43

Corporate identity: interior designer Mark Berryman used the style feature, which he dubbed the “Arkley wave” – a wave pattern carved in wood – on the ceiling of the master suite (right). For the owner’s study (top left) he chose bamboo and zebrano. Waves again feature on the walls of the owner’s bathroom and the lobby (bottom left). 44 BOAT EXCLUSIVE 4/10

Right up there: the top deck not only provides the opportunity to relax in the Egg Chair, a 1958 Arne Jacobsen design, but also to work out on the gym equipment just in front of the bar (left). The second saloon on the upper deck features a bar, sofas and two card tables aft (middle, bottom right). 4/10 BOAT EXCLUSIVE 47

Therefore to describe these yachts as semi-custom would seem logical and obvious. An almost identical level of spec for the engine rooms that usually extend over two decks, and a standardised basic engineering configuration for this size of yacht, which incorporates the benefits of many years of experience, underscore the 60-metre concept, which is designed to shorten construction lead-times. As is customary on a “semi”-custom yacht, the amount of work put into implementing the solutions tailored to the owner’s requirements is still enormous. The client’s list of special requests is often...

made to the owner’s specifications. The water cascades out of a slot in the wall. Going aft from the staircase and the entrance lobby you enter the dining area with its large bog oak dining table, which adjoins the main saloon. The table features silver-leaf ornamentation and here too the oak-finish walls feature the “Arkley wave”. The galley, which is equipped to provide a five-star culinary service, is located to port, by the dining area, whilst the separate crew companionway to the lower deck takes the chef de cuisine to the walk-in freezer rooms, refrigerators and wine stores. “Arkley”...
