Product catalog summary

Company Overview

Lombardini Marine, part of the Lombardini Group, specializes in designing and marketing marine diesel engines based on the FOCS and CHD engine families. The company focuses on advanced technology, reliability, and strong customer support through a qualified technical assistance network.

Product Description

The engine series is designed for lightness, compactness, high reliability, optimized durability, and low fuel consumption without sacrificing performance. Engines comply with EC, BSO, and EPA pollution and noise regulations. Special anti-corrosion treatments protect components from saltwater damage. Installation and maintenance are user-friendly.

FOCS Engine Series

  • Design and Construction: 4-stroke diesel engines with fresh water cooling via heat exchanger, zinc anode protection, cast-iron engine block (aluminum block for LDW 502 M), reborable liners, one-piece aluminum cylinder head, indirect injection with unit injector pump, overhead camshaft driven by timing belt, vane-type lubrication pump, stainless steel water-injected exhaust elbow, self-priming sea water pump, air filter, and anti-corrosion surface treatment.
  • Technical Features: Robust, compact design with pearlitic grey cast iron cylinder head and twin reborable liners arranged for cross-flow intake and exhaust. Noise reduction achieved through injection system placement, ribbing, and absence of gears. Overhead camshaft driven by heavy-duty cogged belt. Lubrication via gerotor oil pump.
  • Performance: Patented pump-injector units eliminate fuel pipes, improving injection timing and performance. Engines meet stringent exhaust emission standards, well below EEC requirements. Low vibration due to precise balancing and combustion optimization. Maintenance is cost-effective with easily accessible components.

CHD Engine Series

  • Design and Construction: 4-stroke diesel engines with fresh water cooling via heat exchanger, zinc anode protection, cast-iron engine block and cylinder head, reborable liners, indirect injection, gear-driven single shaft with push rod valve operation, hydraulic tappet, crankshaft-mounted vane lubrication pump, water-injected stainless steel exhaust elbow, self-priming sea water pump, air filter, and special anti-corrosion treatment.
  • Technical Features: Compact design with camshaft located in the upper crankcase for reduced width. Innovative gear train and injection system shorten engine length. Low vibration due to special crankshaft balancing. Noise reduction through fuel injection design, hyper-eutectic pistons, and heavy-duty block.
  • Performance: QLC pump ensures stable injection pressure and timing, preventing gas bubbles and enhancing performance. Engines comply with BSO, EPA 2006, and EU emission standards. Exhaust emissions and performance are tested on 100% of production.
  • Maintenance: Simple construction facilitates easy maintenance. QLC pump servicing can be performed by qualified workshops without specialist intervention.

Performance Curves and Compliance

Performance graphs demonstrate power output at the propeller shaft, propeller demand curves, maximum torque, and fuel consumption for various engine models (LDW 502 M, 702 M, 1003 M, 1404 M, 1904 M, 2204 M, 2204 MT). All engines comply with BSO, EPA 2006, and EU regulations. Ratings are certified within a 5% tolerance, with derating factors applied for altitude and temperature variations.

Standard Equipment

  • 12V electric starter
  • Alternator (120A standard; 40A for LDW 502M)
  • Sea water pump and fuel lift pump
  • Sump oil extraction pump (except LDW 502M)
  • Dry air filter and fuel filter
  • Mechanical reversing gear (2:1 ratio standard; hydraulic optional for CHD series)
  • Cable end fittings for throttle, gear, and engine stop
  • Standard Plus digital instrument panel (except LDW 2204MT with De Luxe panel)
  • 5 meters wiring loom, tool kit, and maintenance booklet

Transmission Systems

S-Drive and S-Drive M Transmissions: Developed from sailboat racing experience, these transmissions emphasize sturdiness, reliability, and minimal water resistance. Features include helical gears with special involute profiles for noise reduction, bronze clutch assembly with metal-spray surface treatment for smooth engagement, built-in sea water inlet with sea cock, corrosion protection via electrochemical treatments and marine paint, lubrication through a single oil path with sea water cooling, and rubber sealing membranes to reduce vibration transmission to the hull.

Dimensions and Weights

Detailed dimensions and dry weights are provided for all engine models with and without transmissions to assist in installation planning.

Technical features FOCS Robustness, sturdiness and minimum weight The original design concept as the pearlitic grey cast iron cylinder head with integral reborable “twin” arranged liners, with cross flow intake and exhaust pipes, has allowed the reduction of the engine lenght assuring at the same time an exceptional sturdiness. The LDW 502 M, which has been built with an aluminium engine block and reborable liners is the lightest of the FOCS series. Low noise Excellent results have been obtained in reducing noise emission thanks to the location of the injection system in the cylinder head, to...

An edge to cut the sea The shape of the submerged part of drive has been evolved to incorporate an excellent hydrodynamic profile with an extremely low drag coefficient, where the drive’s section and chord are reduced to the minimum, for optimum boat speeds between 4 and 12 knots. The axial thrust is handled by a special conical bearing arrangement. To make the installation easier, the drive has its own built-in sea water inlet and is supplied with a sea cock. Reversing gear: safety and reliability The clutch assembly has been developed to ensure soft and precise gear engagement. A technologically...
