Product catalog summary
Overview
The document provides detailed reports on the deployment and performance of Liebherr cranes in two distinct scenarios: the assembly of the MTC 78000 offshore slewing crane and the operations at the Port of Vancouver, USA.
MTC 78000 Assembly
Situation: The MTC 78000 is one of the largest offshore slewing cranes globally, with a dynamic torque of 78,000 mT. Its assembly on the OSA Goliath vessel posed significant engineering challenges.
Task: The challenge was to erect and assemble the crane without exceeding the pier's maximum ground pressure.
Solution: Two LHM 600 mobile harbour cranes were used in tandem, utilizing Sycratronic® technology to lift up to 416 t with a single operator.
Performance: The assembly involved several heavy lifts, including a 370 t slewing platform and other components, with a hoisting height of 43 m enabled by tower extensions.
Port of Vancouver Operations
Situation: The Port of Vancouver, a major logistics hub, required modern equipment to handle increasing wind energy and project cargo.
Task: To support the growth in wind energy cargo, the port needed efficient cargo handling solutions.
Solution: The port acquired its first LHM 500 in 2006, followed by a second, enhancing its capacity to handle heavy-lift project cargo up to 280 t in tandem.
Performance: The cranes facilitate the handling of large wind energy components and improve cargo movement efficiency across the port.
Technical Specifications
LHM 600: Weight 590 t, Capacity 208 t (416 t in tandem), Max radius 58 m, suitable for Capesize/Super Post-Panamax vessels.
LHM 500: Weight 450 t, Capacity 140 t (280 t in tandem), Max radius 51 m, suitable for Post-Panamax vessels.

Heavy Lift Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock GmbH, Germany The MTC 78000 is one of the largest offshore slewing cranes world-wide. With a maximum dynamic torque of 78,000 mT, the MTC 78000 is the most powerful machine within the extensive range of cranes and material handling equipment offered by the Liebherr group of companies. The onsite erection and assembly of this enormous crane on the heavy load vessel OSA Goliath presented Liebherr engineers with special challenges - for example, the planning of the indivi- dual hoists so that the maximum permitted ground pressure of Two LHM 600 mobile harbour cranes were used in tandem oper- ation for the heavy duty lifts. Sycratronic® allows two LHM 600s to lift up to 416 t and to be operated simultaneously by one crane driver. Conventional, manually-operated tandem lifts with land-based cranes need to comply with international standards, resulting in load capacity down rating of 25% and more. The assembly of the MTC 78000 required several spectacular heavy duty lifts. First, the slewing platform, weighing 370 t, was mounted, thereafter, the machinery compartment with the drive components (approximately 2401), the mast lower section (about 250 t) and the mast upper section (around 160 t). The hoisting height of 43 m above pier level was made possible by equipping the mobile harbour cranes with two corresponding tower exten- Scope of supply includes Capesize / Super Post-Panamax Liebherr-Werk Nenzing GmbH
