... for backstrops and sweeplines The DYNICE rope is made of Dyneema® SK75 fibre. The rope has a higher breaking strength than that of steel wire of the same thickness, but only one-sixth of the weight and is much easier to handle. The DYNICE ropes are ideal to use for backstrop attachments and sweeplines in pelagic fisheries. The use of DYNICE started in fisheries as framelines and lacelines in big pelagic trawls and as gilsons and have in such use outperformed steel wire. For several years pelagic trawlers have used DYNICE ropes for backstrops, sweeps and bridles. The lifetime of these ropes in constant use have exceeded 2 ½ years as on board the Shetland purse seiner / pelagic trawler mv. Altaire. • Steel wires, 3 x 31 of 26 or 28 mm dia. are often used for sweeps and bridles with a breaking load of 39 tons and 45 tons respectively. • DYNICE ropes of 26 mm dia. have the breaking load of 65,7 tons. DynIce 28 mm. has the breaking load of 73,8 tons. • Good fatigue life. Both tension and bending fatigue of the DYNICE ropes are excellent. This allows a safety factor comparable to wire (2-3). Normal lifecycle is significantly longer, or 2-3 times that of other materials. Care must be taken for sharp edges, grooved fairleads and bollards. DYNICE is the wire rope replacement for the future. • Increased safety. Because of the low energy storage in the rope there is less risk of accidents if the rope fails. The main focus is on the 12-strand braided ropes which have proven very popular for their roundness and smooth surface. These ropes combine good strength retention with good flexibility and dynamic properties. Termination is easy through splicing where up to 90% of linear strength is retained.
