Product Description: Intershield 803 is a two-pack, abrasion-resistant pure epoxy coating designed to limit mechanical damage and corrosion. It is suitable for cargo holds and exterior hulls of ice-going vessels and can be used with controlled cathodic protection.
Intended Uses: Available in grey (EGA807) and red (EGA808), with a volume solids content of 75% ±2%. The typical dry film thickness is 125 microns, with a theoretical coverage of 6 m²/litre. Application is primarily by airless spray.
Product Information: The mix ratio is 4 parts of Part A to 1 part of Part B, with no induction period required. Drying times vary with temperature, with touch dry times ranging from 2.5 to 6 hours and hard dry times from 4 to 18 hours. Pot life decreases with increasing temperature.
Regulatory Data: VOC values are provided for guidance, with typical values being 222 g/lt as supplied (EPA Method 24) and 129 g/kg of liquid paint as supplied (EU Solvent Emissions Directive).
Certification: The product is certified for food contact, including the carriage of grain and FDA compliance for dry foodstuffs.
Surface Preparations: Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from contamination. High-pressure fresh water wash is recommended, and abrasive blast cleaning to Sa2 or Sa2½ standards is required for major refurbishment and underwater hulls.
Application: Mixing involves combining Parts A and B thoroughly. Application by conventional spray is not recommended. Airless spray requires a tip range of 0.53-0.66 mm and a fluid pressure of at least 211 kg/cm². Thinning is not recommended unless necessary for specific conditions.
Safety: Proper ventilation and protective measures are essential during application. Curing agent may cause sensitization by inhalation, requiring an air-fed hood for spray application.
Limitations: The coating may discolor if immersed in seawater at temperatures below 10°C. It cures down to -5°C but requires a period above 5°C for full mechanical properties.
Storage: The shelf life is 12 months at 25°C, and the product should be stored in dry, shaded conditions away from heat sources.

Intershield 803 Abrasion Resistant Epoxy LIMITATIONS UNIT SIZE The coating will exhibit surface discolouration if immersed in seawater after application and curing at temperatures <10°C. This does not effect the performance characteristics of the product. Intershield 803 will cure down to -5°C but will require a period of cure above 5°C to achieve full mechanical properties.
