Product catalog summary
Product Description: A light-colored, epoxy universal primer designed for anticorrosive protection in various marine environments such as ballast tanks, outer hulls, and crude oil tanks. It is suitable for use with controlled cathodic protection and applicable in both new building and maintenance scenarios.
Intended Uses: Available in grey (KUA602) and red (KUA606), with a volume solids content of 68% ±2%. The typical film thickness is 6.4 mils dry (9.4 mils wet), providing a theoretical coverage of 170 ft²/US gal at 6.4 mils dft. Application methods include airless spray, brush, and roller.
Product Information: The primer consists of Part A and Part B (curing agent KUA603) mixed in a 4:1 ratio. Flash points are 79°F for Part A, 91°F for Part B, and 81°F when mixed. Drying times vary with temperature, with touch dry times ranging from 3 to 26 hours and hard dry times from 5 to 40 hours.
Overcoating Data: Overcoating intervals depend on temperature and the specific product used for overcoating, such as Intergard 263, 269, 410, 5600, 740, and Interthane 990.
Regulatory Data: VOC content is 304 g/lt (2.54 lb/US gal) as supplied, following EPA Method 24.
Certification: The product is certified for food contact (Carriage of Grain), fire resistance (Marine Equipment Directive compliant), and surface spread of flame (IMO Resolution A653 (16)).
Surface Preparations: Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from contamination. Specific cleaning and preparation standards are outlined, including SSPC-SP1 solvent cleaning and abrasive blast cleaning to Sa2½ (ISO 8501-1:2007).
Application: The product is supplied in two containers and must be mixed thoroughly before use. Application by brush or roller is recommended for small areas, with airless spray being the primary method. Proper safety measures, including ventilation and protective equipment, are necessary during application.
Limitations: The product will not cure adequately below 41°F, and optimal performance is achieved above 50°F. It should not be used in mixed schemes with Intergard 5620.
Storage: The product has a shelf life of 12 months at 77°F and should be stored in dry, shaded conditions away from heat and ignition sources.
Important Note: Users should consult their local International Paint representative for specific recommendations and ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental standards.
