Product catalog summary
Overview: The document details the specifications and applications of the Imagenex Model 881A series, including the Digital Multi-Frequency Imaging Sonar, Profiling Sonar, and Azimuth Drive, designed for underwater applications such as ROV, AUV, UUV operations, offshore exploration, archaeology, and research.
Imaging Sonar Specifications: The 881A Imaging Sonar is a programmable, multi-frequency digital sonar with default frequencies of 310 kHz, 675 kHz, and 1 MHz, tunable from 280 kHz to 1.1 MHz. It features a compact design, low power consumption, and supports a range from 1 m to 200 m, operating at depths up to 3000 m.
Profiling Sonar Specifications: Similar to the Imaging Sonar, the Profiling Sonar is optimized for profiling, operating primarily at 675 kHz with tunable frequencies from 600 kHz to 1 MHz. It offers a range resolution of 2 mm for distances up to 4 m, suitable for inspections.
Azimuth Drive Specifications: The Azimuth Drive is a rotary actuator for 3D precision surveying, allowing continuous rotation and controlled via a PC-compatible program using RS-485 protocol.
Software Specifications: The Win881A.exe software controls and displays sonar data, supporting Windows 95 through Vista, with features like sector, polar, and side scan modes, data recording, and playback.
Ordering Information: Provides ordering codes for sonar units and Azimuth Drive configurations, including RS-232 interfaces and connector types.
Color Table Menu: Offers various color tables for mapping echo data amplitude to display colors, with 107 colors per table.
Options Menu: Allows changes in measurement units, sonar echo data display, sound velocity adjustments, user text entry, and sonar head recalibration.
Com Ports Menu: Enables selection of serial communication ports for sonar head and GPS input, supporting RS-485 and RS-232 ports.
Multi-Frequency Operation: Automatically adjusts operating frequency, absorption, and pulse length based on range, with specific parameters for different sonar models.
Settings Menu: Users can adjust sonar head parameters manually or automatically, with options to load, save, or revert configurations.
Misc Menu: Includes features like pixel zoom, screen clearing, diagnostics display, and sonar operation settings when minimized.
Profile Menu: Offers modes for displaying digitized profile range points, grid display options, and profile data plotting settings.
Auto-Profile and Auto-Azimuth: Automates scanning and data saving, generating ASCII XYZ files and screen captures, with customizable scanning processes.
XYZ ASCII File Format: Records multiple scans with date, time, profile range, azimuth angle, vertical scanning angle, and x, y, z coordinates, tab-delimited and grouped by azimuth angle.
Main Menu: Includes options like Grid On/Off for sonar display and an About section for software version and contact information.
On-Screen Switches: Options for displaying data, holding display, reversing scanning direction, adjusting plotting speed, and changing sonar settings.
Keyboard Switches: Commands for clearing display, changing start gain and range, and reversing scanning direction.
Cursor Measurements: One Cursor Measurement measures distance and bearing to a target, while Two Cursor Measurement measures between two targets.
Messages: Error messages indicate issues like no power to the sonar head or GPS receiver not sending data.
Data Storage File Format (.81A): Describes the structure of the .81A file, including file header, sonar return data, and extended bytes for additional information like GPS data.
Scanning Speeds and Storage: Tables provide scanning speeds and storage requirements for different ranges and modes.
Serial Interface Specification: The Model 881A communicates via RS-485 or RS-232 lines, requiring specific command strings and baud rate settings.
Operational Specifications: Outlines care and operational specifications for the Model 881A sonar, focusing on environmental conditions like depth and temperature.
General Care and Usage: Maintenance tasks include rinsing in fresh water, cleaning the transducer dome, lubricating connectors, and proper storage to prevent corrosion and damage.
Service: Repairs should be directed to Imagenex Technology Corp. as there are no user-serviceable components.
Safety: Inspect the transducer dome and cable connector for damage before each use.
Operational Environmental Specifications: The Model 881A operates within specific environmental limits, including temperature, depth, and salinity.
Sonar Theory and Applications: Explains sonar terminology and applications, focusing on imaging and profiling techniques.
Imaging: Uses a fan-shaped beam for visual images, primarily as a viewing tool.
Profiling: Uses narrow beams for accurate cross-sections, primarily a quantitative tool.
Using an Imaging Sonar on an ROV: Enhances ROV operations by allowing area scanning without movement, aiding in target recognition and sonar interpretation training.
Interpretation of Sonar Images: Sonar images differ from optical images due to ultrasonic signals, requiring understanding of the scanning process and shadow analysis for interpretation.
