Humphree Interceptor Systems Humphree Interceptor Systems provide effective solutions to en­ hance your vessels’ performance in both calm and rough water. Depend­ ing on configuration, Humphree Interceptor Systems can provide • Reduced resistance at hump speed • Reduced wavemaking and wash • Increased speed and vessel range • Operator control of running trim and list • Automatic optimisation of trim and speed • Active damping of pitch and roll motions All Humphree Interceptor Systems are based on the innovative Humphree Interceptor and our specially designed control panel, offering simple and intuitive operation. The Humphree Interceptor is a low weight, electrically powered compact series of interceptor units designed for easy and unobtrusive full-beam or near full-beam transom installations. Due to its unique construction, encompassing special internal antifriction components, the Humphree Interceptor requires less power than any other vertical or horizontal trim tab device. The need for hydraulics has simply been eliminated by design. Other features are: • Easy adaptation to your specific hull shape • Inboard electric servo actuators • No environmental pollution from oil • Composite materials eliminating corrosion The fundamental working principle of an interceptor is to generate an increase in pressure on the hull bottom plating directly ahead of the transom by intercepting the flow with a blade. Contrary to what one might first think, the blade only has to extend a few millimetres below the transom edge to substantially raise the pressure over a large area. This results in a high hydro­dynamic lift while the smallness of the projected blade, despite being subject to high pressure, results in low hydrodyna­mic drag. Provided the interceptor spans across or nearly across the full width of the transom, the lift-drag ratio of the interceptor is superior to any other transom-mounted lifting device. This makes it a most suitable device for providing forces to optimise running trim and actively dampen ship motion. The Humphree Control Panel offers the operator a single interface to control any Humphree Interceptor System – from the basic version to a fully active one. Operation is simple and intuitive via illuminated touch buttons and a large high resolution LCD with multi-level menus and graphical presentation. Key features are: • Single “easy to learn and use” operator interface • Excellent viewability in sunlight • Self-configuring “plug and play” control network • Standard interfaces to monitoring systems Basic The basic Humphree Interceptor System offers the high-speed craft operator an effective tool to optimise the ship speed and the ride comfort by manual control of running trim and list. If the operator requires auto­mated functions, the basic system can be easily upgraded to include automatic trim optimisation or active damping of pitch and roll motion. In such a case there will be no need to replace the Humphree Interceptors, since all components have been designed for continuous high-frequency operation. Atos Automatic Trim Optimisation System (ATOS) is an embedded functional option to the basic Humphree Interceptor System. This additional function offers automatic and semi-automatic optimisation of vessels’ running trim for faster acceleration, higher speed, increased range and safer and smoother ride. Active The active Humphree Interceptor System is an affordable, effective ride control system that comprises the basic Humphree Interceptor System, ATOS and an advanced digital controller with proprietary control algorithms and incorporating an integral stateof-the-art motion sensing device that measures 3D rate-of-turn, acceleration and the earth-magnetic field.
