Product catalog summary
Overview
Humphree provides advanced trim and stabilization systems designed to enhance course stability, fuel efficiency, and maneuverability in marine vessels. Their systems include electric rudders, course-stabilizing fixed fins, and steering interceptors, all aimed at improving vessel performance and reducing operational costs.
Electric Rudders
The Humphree 24V DC electric rudders offer immediate steering response, improved speed, and reduced fuel consumption by up to 10%. These rudders integrate seamlessly with waterjet steering systems, minimizing thrust losses and wear on the steering gear. They are easy to install and come in various sizes to suit different vessel requirements.
Course Stabilizing Fixed Fins
Fixed fins are designed to address course-keeping issues in waterjet boats by providing additional lateral underwater area. These fins are available in sub-cavitating and ventilated versions, suitable for speeds up to and above 40 knots, respectively. They are engineered to break off under stress to prevent hull damage.
Steering Interceptors
Humphree's interceptor steering systems enhance course keeping and fuel efficiency by maintaining waterjet steering buckets in a neutral position while using interceptors for steering. This system improves steering response, reduces fuel consumption by 3-5%, and lessens wear on waterjet gear. It is particularly beneficial for high-speed ferries and naval applications.
Performance and Benefits
The integration of Humphree systems results in faster response times, straighter courses, improved fuel economy, and increased comfort. The systems are designed for easy integration with any waterjet brand and autopilot systems, providing a secondary steering option and enhancing overall vessel control.
Case Study: SWATH Crew Transfer Vessel
A Norwegian SWATH vessel equipped with Humphree's complete stabilization system, including interceptors and fin stabilization, demonstrates significant motion reduction, improved safety, and reduced environmental impact. The system's electric actuation and active ride control enhance both crew comfort and vessel durability.

electric rudders course stabilising fixed fins The Humphree 24V DC electric rudders are used for superb course stability minimising yaw movements. The rudders are operated in manual or during auto pilot mode. Effective integration with waterjets minimizes thrust losses when steering, saves fuel and increases vessel speed. The use of electric rudders also provide less wear and tear on the waterjet steering systems. Many waterjet boats experience course-keeping problems. This is due to the absence of a lateral underwater area which helps the vessel to keep its course. An added lateral area is most...

GENERAL SYSTEM ARRANGEMENT REFERENCE EXAMPLE The interceptor steering system improves the course keeping and efficiency of the vessel by keeping the waterjet steering buckets in neutral position while using the interceptors to steer the vessel at high speed. The steering force from the Humphree steering Interceptor typically corresponds to a rudder angle between 5 and 15 degrees. For larger rudder angles the water jet buckets will start to deflect and the Interceptors will contribute for up to 50 percent increased steering force in planing speeds. The Interceptor steering system is used to improve...
