HexPly® M81

Product catalog summary
Description
HexPly® M81 is a high-performance tough epoxy matrix designed for industrial applications requiring impact resistance and damage tolerance, such as in the automotive industry. It is based on the HexPly® 8552 epoxy resin system, widely used in aircraft structures, and is now available for non-aerospace applications with specially adapted reinforcements.

Benefits and Features
  • Toughened epoxy matrix with excellent mechanical properties
  • Elevated temperature performance with a glass transition temperature (Tg) up to 200°C
  • Versatile cure cycle ranging from 135°C to 180°C
  • Available on various reinforcements
  • Excellent drape and tack

Resin Matrix Properties
  • Color: Yellow
  • Density: 1.30 g/cm³
  • Maximum Glass Transition Temperature, Tg onset dry: 200°C

Curing Conditions
HexPly® M81 can be cured at temperatures from 135°C to 180°C. The recommended cure is 3 hours at 135°C. Alternative cure cycles are available, and performance testing should accompany these to ensure suitability.

Prepreg Physical Properties
Examples of prepreg physical properties are provided, including fiber weave mass, nominal cured ply thickness, nominal fiber volume, and nominal laminate density.

Cured Prepreg Mechanical Properties
Mechanical properties are based on a 135°C cure for 120 minutes, at 6 bar pressure and -0.95 bar vacuum, followed by post-curing for 60 minutes at 170°C. Data includes tensile strength, tensile modulus, flexural strength, flexural modulus, interlaminar shear strength (ILSS), and compression strength.

Prepreg Storage Life
  • Shelf Life: 12 months at -18°C/0°F
  • Out Life: 14 days at room temperature (25°C max)
  • Tack Life: 10 days at room temperature (25°C max)

Storage Conditions
HexPly® M81 prepregs should be stored in a cool, dry place or in a refrigerator. Allow prepreg to reach room temperature before opening to prevent condensation.

Precautions For Use
Handle uncured synthetic resins and fibrous materials with care. Use clean, disposable gloves to protect operators and avoid contamination.
